As a girl, adding か sounds unnecessarily harsh from anyone. I would feel like I were being interrogated or even yelled at if someone dared talk to me that way. :p

You also have to remember that the girls down here in the kansai region are pretty harsh. Some would definately use this kind of language, that being said, I did not even check if the OP was a girl, my bad!:p

I rarely hear women down here say "かしら" , but I have heard it quite a lot in the kantou region. You have to remember that Kansai ben can come across pretty harsh to you guys from Kantou.

Where is it that you studied Elisabeth? And Undrentide are you from the northen region of Japan? I get the feeling that your are and Elizabeth too.

Yes, kansai ben can come across to be very friendly sometimes. Kansai ben is all I know really, I have not a clue as to what 標準語 is so don't go there! LOL

I deal with business men from kantou and they are all so polite it is incredible.

よく眠れたか from men to women is OK if it is between close friends or more, or the man is older (or higher in position), but as you mentioned it does sound hypermasculine and may not be welcomed in every situation for sure...
よく眠れた？ would be far better if one wants to be on the safe side.

I can understand your friends' sentment, and I guess most people have attachment for their local language (I mean dialect), because it is their first language and most suitable for them to express themselves, while 共通語（標準語） is the language they speak only at school/work and somewhat foreign.:-)

Ha,Ha,Ha... I work with the elderly and yes it is mainly used by them. However every now and again you get younger people saying this, like me.
