Okay a weird moment happened to me the other day. I was talking to a Japanese friend about heratige. I told him that mine was mainly British and Irish with some Native American/American Indian from both parents. He replied to me that I had Asian in me because of that since the NA/AI kept their bloodlines pure until the explorers came and that they (NA/IA) came from Asia crossing the baring straight (sp?). So therefore I have Asian according to him. What do you think? :?

I think there is little doubt that the Native Americans initially came from Asia and are fairly closely related to the current inhabitants of Asia, yet I think the genealogy is distant enough that they would no longer be considered Asian technically.

Not.
Native Americans came from Siberia true. And Siberians are Asian. But when you really think about it we all came from the same people. Mitochodrial Eve and Y-Chromosomal Adam. The Native Americans were long separated from their Siberian ancestors. And over time, separation cause the effect we call "genetic drift". They're not the same people as the Siberians they once were. Native Americans are no more Asian than I am a black man.

providing backup to the claimed info here. Like the other thread "What's the origin of the Japanese people?" just claiming your knowledge is correct holds no water if it's just your personal opinion. How about naming books and links to back up posts, thanks.

Very interesting!
I really don't know. I will say that some Mexicans and South Americans I have seen look like they could have some Asian in them. And keep in mind that many Mexicans South Americans are of Native American/Indian descent relation. Of course there were a large number of Japanese immigrants in Brazil, so that may have something to do with the South American connection, but probably not much.

Yeah I thought it would be an interesting topic here.
I never really thought of it in that way until him said something. When you really think about it the Native Americans did keep thier boodline pure until the Spanish explorers came and when you hear comanche spoken it sounds a lot like Japanese and other asia languages.

according to my teacher (i guess not the most reliable source) there are three races: caucasoid, negroid, and mongoloid, and American Indians belong to mongoloid, so yes they are Asian, going purely by race.

i have read that native americans might have passed to america from asia through behernig between rusia and alaska ( dont mind the spelling )
plus the DNA of both asians and native americans have a lot of ancient similaraties in the Y cromozom in men which rarely changes.......so there is high propability that native americans are asian

Oh lovely, and so Blumenbach's silly ideas continue to live on.
So tell me, which of these three are the people of India?

I didn't know that whole Y thing not changing. :relief:
That's only one theory, there are a lot of theories out there. But no one have ever proved 100%.
Well, here you can find out more information:

Hehe, i know thats scientifically accurate, and serious as well, but i swear, for a second i felt some kind of Parasite Eve nostalgy lol :D
As for the matter.
Well, according to the common belief we can consider Native Americans Asians. I mean its either that, or they are in America since Pangean times, which sounds a bit silly in my opinion. Dividing people to races isn't such a dumb idea in my opinion, even if it is incorrect, it gave people some sort of insight that: "Hey, we look different, but what is this? We differ less from certain races, wait, its more like we show similarity!"
I mean, before genetics were "invented" it was necessary i believe.

Silly inaccurate analogy :okashii: .... they still appear Asiatic to our eyes.
N America's indigenous tribes are as much continental Asians genetically & culturally, they've retained Shamanism aspect of their Siberian forebears.

Tokapi! it's really amazing how similar are Siberia's Evenks and Mapuches! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mapuche)

The clothings are closest to native Americans of Pacific Northwest and Northern Arctic, drums just like the ones used by the Arctic tribes of North America.
Oh .... they also share tradition of totem-pole carving :-)

The only Native Americans who look Asian in my eyes are the Eskimos. I have never seen a Mexican who looked Asian to me.
