I hope somebody can help and give me some advice. I'd like to change to my job, which is very stressful, and go to Japan to teach either English to kids or Spanish, my mother tongue. I have found a lot of information for English teachers, a lot web sites where ads are posted (mainly thanks to you Glenski),a lot of jobs offers. But nothing regarding Spanish language. I have been trying to find a job from here but they all say the same: 'Native teacher, already residing in Japan, qualified, with experience...Is it so tough to find a job in Japan?? The point is that I know other spanish people teaching English and Spanish in Japan not qualified and with no experience.Even once I met a spanish working in a internationally well know language school teaching spanish with no idea of English/Japanese and not qualified, but with a working visa. I know English is not my mother language but I speak it quite good 'cause I've been living in the UK. I was thinking of going a as tourist for 3 months and search for a job once there, 'cause we neither can participate on the Jet Programme or get a working holyday visa. Any suggestion? Even knowing that I would have to apply for the working visa outside Japan, is it that a bad/good idea to go and search a job in Japan?

Thanks pipokun. But since 2006 the Japanese Embassy in Spain has not offfered a single position for the Jet Programme. In 2006 they offered ONE position for Gifu pref. as sports trainer. I phone them, and they said that by 2008 they may/may not offer. So basically the changes for a spanish to participate on the Jet are zero.

You might have gone with NOVA, but that company has gone under (or nearly so). Look at what Berlitz offers.

The simple answer is yes. Non-native English speakers have a limited market as teachers in Japan.
