Any suggestions for books by Japanese women writers? Except Yoshimoto Banana. :D

Natsuo Kirino. I've two of her books. Usually under crime at the book store. The two currently in English are Out and Grotesque. Two other coming out in 2008 are What Remains and Real World.
Here is a link to Fantastic Fiction (http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/k/natsuo-kirino/)site. At the bottom of the page there is a list of other Japanese authors. A look through them could also turn up someone else.

Yoko Ogawa is a nice author with her own style.
As she is still in her mid-40, I just wondering how she will complete or uncomplete it in another 30 or 40 years.

Enchi Fumiko. I read her novel The Waiting Years (dunno the Japanese title) back in college, and it wasn't bad. But, like a lot of Japanese lit I've read, don't expect a super-happy ending.

Actually, an unhappy ending for me is a good thing. I'm tired of all the no matter what happy Hollywood <censored> endings ;)

I wrote down the names, and will look for their books.

A French movie, L'Annulaire, is available at Gyao, of course it is free, till 21 this month. The original book is under the title of "Kusuriyubi no Hyohon" by Yoko Ogawa.

I've read a book of Kanehara Hitomi. The original title is"Hebi ni piasu" the english one is "Snakes and earrings". It's great. It's a story about body modifications (snake tongue, earrings, tatoos) love and murder. The only minus is it's so short. :(

I liked 博士の愛した数式 by Yoko Ogawa.

The Tale of Genji was written by a woman, Murasaki Shikibu.

Yes, but whether it makes enjoyable reading is a bit of a disputed point :genji:
