1. She apprecieates your letter.
2. Her family S is surely related to Soshichi.
3. Her father and Soshichi played together when they were kids.

4. Her question is that the family name change from S to N.

5. They (her families) have paid their ancestors a visit regularly, though the tombs had been merged into one.
6. You will have the photoes of the tomb and the present house of S soon.
7. As she is in her 90', her children don't know much about what you want to know.

I did not translate the whole letter, and I did not used the real names except Soshichi.
It is all up to you, but it may be an idea to ask the moderators to delete the links of jpg files.

sigmentofb,

pipokun is concerned with disclosure of very private family matters in a forum open to anyone who comes to visit. (The Nihongo Forum is open to viewing without need for registration as member. Registration is required only for posting.)

Since he has given you the gist of the letter, I or any other moderator can delete either the two pages of the letter or the entire thread altogether, if you so wish.

FYI, there had been in the past JREF members who had posted letters in handwritten Japanese to be translated, but they haven't been deleted, if I remember correctly. However, it must also be noted that these past posts did not include personal names.

So, it's up to you. :souka:

Thank you very much for the gist of the letter pikokun, it's really appreciated! I have a question though: does she say in the letter exactly how she or her father is related to Soshichi? I deleted the pictures out of my first post

1. Her family is the head family.
2. She says:
that Soshichi's family is a branch of the family living next to her house;
that she does not know when Soshichi's ancestor build the house;
and that Soshichi's father (maybe) built it.

Her grandfather-Her father-Her
Soshichi's father-Soshichi

Probably her grandfather and Soshichi's father were brothers, and the latter was a younger one.

Thank you again pipokun! I think maybe Soshichi and her father could be cousins, since Soshichi was the eldest son and it wouldn't make sense if they were brothers.
