Apply for SMAP fan club?

Hmm... actually i'm not a fan of SMAP but just doing a favor for my good friend. She recently went to attend SMAP's concert in Fukoka and came back mesmerized.... she heard that you need to be a Japanese to apply for membership into the fan club. Is that true and will any kind souls be willing to help her apply?

I do believe that you have to be in Japan to be an official member of the SMAP fan club....not really fair, but it is that way with many fan clubs in Japan I believe. :(

If such a policy exists, it is likely due to them not wanting the extra expense and aggravation of doing separate mailings for overseas members.
