Only out of curiosity: What kind of company did you start?
Sometimes I have wished to open up a store, or something similar in Japan or somewhere else. I highly doubt I will ever get into it, though. Maybe I will look into it later on to find out what it takes, but it is definitely going to be hard, unless you got the residency permit or something already and even then it is not going to be easy.

It is absolutely not necessary for a residency permit to start a company in Japan. It is easier than you would expect !
I also sell a guidebook to show how to set-up your own company in Japan for people living in Japan.
My company is mainly for import-export to/from Japan.

It would be nice if you can give us some more information on this thread about what kind of company you have and tips...

Which would explain why you didn't put much info in your first post.
And which would put this thread into the category of being an advertisement rather than a sincere posting of useful information.

Just go to the Small Business SOHO link on the first page of www.gaijinpot.com and read the basic primer from Trip Hop, or get a copy of Debito Arudou's latest book and you'll have all you need.
I'm with Mike on this one. If you want to advertise, go the regular route instead of sneaking around and posting enticing stuff on threads.
