Kanji expert please!

Is the defination of Taizen-Jijaku correct, I've been looking to get a tattoo of some kanji meaning :o keep your composure at all times,and or being calm even during extreme circumstances.
Would this be the best for me? Or is there something else out there that would better suit me?

The meaning is correct, but whether it translates into "perfect composure" I am a bit sceptical. I could think of better words to describe "perfect composure" and at the same time have someone who is Japanese actually understand what the kanji means (yes I think you will find many Japanese will not know this arrangement of Kanji)
Why not just get a tatoo that says "I am very calm and composed" in English , then everyone will know what you are like.

I can't give you advise on what is best, as I imagine the look of the kanji will come into play. I wouldn't choose 平気 though.

I can't give you advise on what is best, as I imagine the look of the kanji will come into play. I wouldn't choose 平気 though.

I agree with Dave, to me tatooing 平気 on your arm is like tatooing OK, it looks a bit silly or funny and I don't think it is something you want to convey.
平静 and 冷静 is less bad, still it does not look good for tattoo...
Maybe it is OK to use as a motto to be framed and hang at a classroom wall.

Personally I don't think it is great to have kanji tattoo on one's body (no offence meant, it's just my personal opinion) but if you really need to, 泰然自若 is better than the above three.

Im very into the japanese culture and ive been throw some crazy life or death experiences in my life and I always felt keepin my composure was most important and people know me for my composure so getting this tattoo would be very meaningful and fitting for myself. It wouldnt be the same if i just wrote composure in English. Would this confuse people who read kanji or is it pretty straight forward?

Like I said before , not many Japanese will be able to understand it (that is not to say that it is jibberish) it just mean that this arrangement of kanji is not seen and 90% of the population won't have a clue how to understand it.

I don't mean to be rude but why would you care what others would think upon seeing your tattoo if it meant a great deal to YOU? Are you getting that tattoo so people would think it looks cool and ask you what it means and you can tell them all about your crazy life or death experiences and how you remained cool and composed through them all?

If it is not just for fashion and you want something on your body that is representative of your character, why not wait until you master the language and can pick the words yourself? If I were picking words in, say, German to tattoo on my body, I don't think I will be trusting it with some strangers on some German Forum on the internet.

泰然自若 means one is unperturbed, unflappable (whatever happens) and no other meaning though it is neutral and can be used in both positive/negative ways depending on the context.
There's little possibility that people would misunderstand it as far as the definition of the word is concerned.

Of course most people may ask you why you have it tattooed because I guess most people around you (in your country) do not understand kanji so they cannot tell what it says, and if you come to Japan they' don't know you so they cannot tell whether you are actually unperturbed or you just want to be so or you just like the word, etc.

I think that most Japanese people know the word and understand its meaning in the context, but just the word on its own, some people may not be able to tell its definition.

I totally agree with you i just dont want to get a tattoo that means something different than i thought, This tattoo is for me and im only doing it for me not to show off, but i dont want someone to tell me that it doesnt mean what i think it does. So unperturbed means free from emotional agitation or nervous tension which is basically keeping great composure.
I know tranquil means calm: not agitated; without losing self-possession which is very very close. What is the kanji for tranquil, what are your thoughts?

Oh man... another kanji tattoo thread. I have to say I'm not one for tattoos in the first place (not against them though) but I really roll my eyes every time I see one of these kanji tattoos. Would you write "Perfect Composure" on yourself in English?

Heck, go really crazy and tattoo something in Sanskrit on your hands and forearms before your next trip that request plane travel.
