I would like to hear from the fellow forum members on their opinion on Utsunomiya Tochigi-Pref. From the quick search on the web, it seems this city hosts a variety of multinational corporations' factories and facilities. Do you think the city is considered cosmopolitan? As a former New Yorker living in Tokyo, I may have a job offer from one of the multinationals in Utsunomia.

I travel to Utsunomiya maybe twice a week for work and I see many foreigners (mostly from Asian countries).

According to the city's home page, about 30% of all the foreigners in Utsunomiya is Chinese. Followed by people from Brazil, Phillipines, Korea and Thailand. Less than 3% are from USA. As of 2006, out of 509,509 residents, 8,039 were foreigners.

Is it "cosmopolitan"? I don't know. It IS Tochigi after all.... so it's no Tokyo or Osaka.

I suggest you take a day trip out here and see it yourself. By Shinkansen, it takes less than an hour from Tokyo.

So many choices..... New York, Utsunomiya, and Shinjuku..... I am narrowing down to those 3 options now for my next career. To say the least, I am torn, thinking which one is good for me in the long haul. Each one of those options have pros and cons and I need to put them on my value scale to make the final choice. New York: that is where I belong to. Utsnomiay: the stable career with possible career expansion into the Asia Pacific region. Shinjuku: Excellent sales/marketing opportunities with incessant overseas travels all year round.
