I went to this site and it told me that my name would be spelt

I would have gone with じょうなさん as I think it sounds more like your name. Most likley your name would be in katakana (ジョウナサン)since it is a foreign name. The problem is there is no proper "th" sound in Japanese. If I read your name as the site made it, I would think your name is Jonahs.

Actually I think it's normally transcribed ジョナサン without the long o, but I could be wrong....

You could be right, Elizabeth, it all depends on how you decide to say it and which English speaker you ask :-) I make no pretensions of perfection. Type-Zero, either one will suit you.

Aww, i like hiragana tho, it looks sexier lol, although i'd better take the katakana, but katakana is much harder for me >.<
