I'm a European woman in relationship with a Japanese woman and we are looking firstly for Japanese sperm banks and secondly for a Japanese IVF clinic which can help us achieve our dream of a family. Does anyone have any knowledge of how to find either of these? Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

if it is OK if the websites are in Japanese? Some of our Japanese members don't get on till the weekend, so it could take a while to get some answers. Good luck!

hmm, this is a first... almost (http://www.jref.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18887)... (though at first glance you don't seem to be completely off your rocker).

Your partner is Japanese, are they unable to locate this information (as it will undoubtedly only be in Japanese)? Or would you be willing to find a local IVF clinic that can provide you with genetic material from a Japanese donor? Have you contacted any clinics so far?

thanks for replies. yes we've checked out some clinics on the net (in Japanese) but they are vague, I'm waiting back on answers from a couple. Local to us is Britain (were we live) so we are hoping to get some info from people in Japan or who've had any sort of experience of this stuff.

I'm not sure what the laws regarding same-sex marriage or visa sponsorship for non-married same-sex partners are in Britain, or if such things are even relevant to your situation. I just want to make mention of the fact that neither are possible in Japan at the moment and in the event of your partner deciding to return to Japan there is the possibility of things becoming horribly complicated for you.

Not saying yea or nay to your intended course of action, just want to make sure you have given thought to all possible repercussions from it. The law of unintended consequences has a way of rearing its ugly head from time to time, you know.

Hi Mike
Yes I'm aware that same-sex marriage and visa sponsorship aren't allowed in Japan (yet!) and yes they exist in Britain now in the form of civil partnership (which my partner and I are in). However I have heard that Japanese lesbian couples are starting to have families together now so it is possible, I am just trying to find out more information about it.

Thanks for your advice tho, its correct, and much thought and planning is going into this.
