Judo Event
I was a little sad to see Ryoko Tani win just a bronze medal in this event. Her opponent didn't really win but rather was able to use the Olympic system to her advantage. Tani lost the final because of a penalty point. However, Tani has been to the Olympics several times before and should have known better. Still, she won a medal so omedetou gozaimasu!
Tokorode, I had wanted to wanted participate in the summer Olympics because a gold medal would look good on my resume. But there's no surfing event! :( How can surfing not be a surfing event while synchronizied swimming is? :okashii:
I'll just have to wait for the downhill slalom skiing event in the winter Olympics. :-)

Ryoko could have won the gold medal. The judge was unfair.

To me the best sport in the Olympics is the equestrian events. Men and women compete on equal terms. How cool is that!
Anytime there is judging there will be bias. It's sad but true. There have been many cases of judges fixing there scores and being in cahoots with one another to block other countries.
I do think surfing is an amazing sport! It's amazing to watch. You wouldn't catch me swimming in the ocean. I am terrified of sharks.
I have to say I'd be deathly afraid of swimming in the ocean near Beijing or the China coast after being to the country and seeing how bad things with pollution really are. I'll eat coal raw before I set foot in the ocean there.

I'm really enjoying Judo, and the swimming games. It's nice to support 2 countries (The Netherlands/Japan).
Good luck Beijing!!!

Someone deleted the "j" in the thread title (it was originally spelled correctly) but Bay-ying sounds good-- I just hope it doesn't offend any Chinese.
The China men's team took the gold in gymnastics. They were great-great form and routines! :-) But Japan was not too shabby, it took silver.
Too bad for Japan's soccer team but what can I say--they weren't good.:bluush:
It's interesing that the equestrian events are in Hong Kong. Pretty far from Beijing. It's kind of like having a Tokyo Olympics with an event in Okinawa, don't you think?.

The Olymipics is now over but I think it made a lasting impression, especially the opening ceremony and the great architecture. The London Olympics in 2012 might be hard pressed to match it.
Well, Japan's team did okay...not as good as Athens but not bad, IMO.
I think the world needed this distraction otherwise we'd all be totally gloomy right now.
