Odd and messy situation so I'll keep it simple.

I'm trying to find out who I would contact and how I would go about filing whatever report is required with the Japanese police in Tokyo or Kanagawa concerning an email death threat I have received out of nowhere from an exgf's new crazy and abusive boyfriend.

I've contacted the police in the US and all I can do here is an informational report. I was told I would need to contact the police directly in Japan for anything to be done report wise there. However, I'm entirely oblivious to this process and what I can expect or not expect, let alone with doing this abroad from the United States.

However, I want to file some sort of report just for the sake of playing it safe. While I should be fine, I know that this guy is already unstable due to previous disturbing emails sent to me out of the blue. I don't know the situation really, but I know that he has all my information including home address, picture, and other information.

If anyone has an idea what to do, and this is an odd one that is for sure, please let me know on this thread or by PM. Thank you very much.

I would just block him from your E-Mail account and forget about it. Let him be your ex's problem. If you still have the E-Mail , you can right click properties and it will show the computer's IP number of the guy. With the IP number you can find the host's complaint line.If you give me his IP , I can probably find the E-Mail address for you. If you forward a copy of the threat letter to them, they will cancel his account. Probably get rid of the problem that way better then through the police. Most police will just log such complaints and forget about them.

Thank you Uncle Frank for your quick reply.

Yes, I feel that there is very little that can be done. However, since I'm not aware of the entire situation and have already seen from previous "impersonation" emails and behavior that he is not stable and has my information, I wanted to file some sort of report, even if it is only with the United States police... who I'm very certain will do nothing. I don't expect any problems in the United States, but as I will be returning to Japan for graduate studies, I needed to keep some sort of record or report.

As for the IP address, I did a trace on one, and it seems to just go to westwood CA USA for the first (probably one of google's email routing offices) and then after two SMP ip's do not show any data on various IP search sites. Should I message you the header IPs listed?

Again thank you for the help. I'm going writing up a report for an informational report to the local police now. I'm also trying to find out to report the email to google but running into surprising difficulty on how to contact them.

you send a breif E-Mail of the problem and include your E-Mail address in the body of the E-Mail to :
security@google.com

It says they will get right back to you about your problem. It might only work if the guy used Google E-Mail on his end? Not sure. Worth a try to see if they are helpful like they promise to be.

Good luck!

Thanks Uncle Frank. It's an awful situation and can't really do much as you said. This isn't common so not even the police in the US knew what to do. Thanks for your help. I'll email google.

And what do you expect the police to do here?

Are you seriously taking this death threat seriously?

And how did he get your e-mail address?
