Hi we are interested in viewing ukiyo-e in Japan: we are aware of the museum in Matsumoto, and possibly the Ota Museum near Harajuku in Tokyo..are there any other museums/galleries of note worthy of a visit (to VIEW, not buy)..we are visiting family, mostly for dinner at night as they are working, and are going to Tokyo, Kanazawa, Osaka and Kyoto, with day trips to Okayama/Kurashiki, and Hiroshima/Miyajima..any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks

Have you already been to Ota Museum? It's my favourite.
It is rather small and number of ukiyoe displayed is limited, but they are replaced often and on the basement floor they show a film on how to make ukiyoe (you'll be amazed so many wood blocks are used for one print!)

I've found two ukiyoe museums in Tokyo on the net:

Koishikawa Ukiyoe Museum
(Koishikawa, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo)

Acess:
Kourakuen Station (Marunouchi Line/Nanboku Line) Exit No.4B 2 min. walk
Kasuga Sta. (Mita Line, Ooedo Line) Exit No. 6 1 min walk

New Otani Art Museum

They seem to have a collection of the orignal paintings of ukiyoe (before made into woodblock prints)

This museum is located within the New Otani Hotel on the Lobby Floor of "Garden Tower".

New Otani is a wonderful hotel, you can also enjoy strolling the nice Japanese garden in the heart of Tokyo.
I'm not sure if the ukiyoe paintings collection is on display all the time or only on specific dates. You may want to check with the hotel.
