The anime that really got me hooked was Bleach. (It was the first subbed anime I watched be4 that I was allergic to subtitles. )

The very first anime i saw was Akira, however it wasn't until i saw Princess Mononoke much later that i started to become really interested in anime- soon after that i bought Azumanga Daioh and Vampire Princess and those two series got me pretty hooked on anime .

I've seen a great deal of different animes since, overall i would say that the best series i've seen so far are Fullmetal Alchemist and Azumanga. Bleach and Naruto are both very good series, although i would say so far i prefer Naruto more (its a close call though) :) .

You are going to have to define anime first...

Such things as Fireball XL5, Stingray, Supercar, Scooby-Do, Tom & Jerry (the pre PC ones), Magic Roundabout, Bill & Ben... are what got me hooked.

But I've never liked Mickey Mouse: in fact I detest it. TBF I'm not a fan of American animation (apart from Hanna-Barbara and some Looney Tunes).

I'm relatively new to Japanese animation (not counting Poke-0-mon) but I've not found one I don't like yet (well, some of the hard-core sexually explicit ones make me cringe but there is still artistic merrit in them).

The anime that really got me interested in Japanese anime is Girl's High but it's been like heroine since...

(Apologies for spelling errors, too busey to check references).

Elfen Lied. The phrase "I cannot believe what I just saw" passed through my mind many times as I watched this masterpiece.

The first anime series that I ever watched in its entirety was "Tsuyokissu" (I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong). I had decided to use anime as a means to get used to the natural speed of Japanese Language, watching only the subtitled version of animes.

But after a year or so of watching anime, I began to grow tired of how a lot of them have become darker and darker in content. There were great ones like:

Ouran High School Hosts Club
Fruits Basket
Angel Heart
Ceres
Honey and Clover
Bokura ga Ita
Lovely Complex
Glass Mask
Kaiba
etc. etc.

But anime of the more grim and cryptic content seemed to take over, and l began to lose interest until I just stopped watching altogether.

Do you know of other anime like those listed above? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Aurura

DBZ and Tenchi Muyou

And I hate DBZ now >_<
Sure I watched some stuff before DBZ that I now understand were anime, but DBZ and Tenchi Muyou were first anime I watched knowingly and they hooked me straight away.
And I started because friend got me interested in them. And from the start I watched only fansubs, except for Ranma 1/2.
