Last weekend I passed Franc franc in Shinjuku and noticed that Christmas decorations were already up. Today, I went to Starbucks and Christmas music was playing! In keeping with that spirit, I'm posting a Christmas in Japan video. :p

The Sarlight Garden at the Midtown Complex is gorgeous. If you're in the area, be sure to make a visit.

It's getting closer to Christmas and the season is in full bloom. Here's another good vid of Christmas/Holiday illuminations in Tokyo.

Cool videos!

We need some lessons from you guys on Christmas Decorating.

Or perhaps we could just compare notes and ideas this year?

Music was neat too.

How long has Tokyo been doing this anyway?

Thanks,

HD

The Xmas season has been big here for decades--(maybe since the Bubble Era-1980's?) George Michael's "Last Christmas" and Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Chrismas" are the perennial big hits. Which reminds me...

Karaoke street performance at Yoyogi Park :p :

Christmas in Japan is usually celebrated on Christmas Eve rather than on Christmas Day and is considered a time for romance. This video of Japan Railway commercials (1988-1992) clearly shows this perspective and uses Tatsuro Yamashita's song, "Christmas Eve."

In the first CM, you see a very young Eri Fukatsu--she's much more beautiful now -- I'd like to spend Christmas Eve with her. :p

absolutely stunning.
I would suppose most modern metropolis would do similar things during this season... to encourage shoppers :D But from these videos and photos.. Japan does it best. Now I know why a friend was complaining about this being contrary to the kyoto protocol efforts. XD

The displays in Mie look more fabulous than those in Tokyo! Thanks for sharing.

However, most if not all of the light displays were dismantled right after Chrismas day. So they're gone until next year.
