The difference? The similarity? I mean no harm to either of Dubai or Japan but let me describe what it's like to live in the fastest growing city " Dubai ".
Dubai, if not " The " fastest growing city then it must be one of the fastest growing ones. Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates. The local citizens here are Arabs but you can barely see any since Dubai is crowded with Indians and British. Shamefully, Dubai does not depend on the local citizens to build it's self up, it depends on the money it gets from oil to hire foreigners to do the dirty work for them. The fastest train in the world is located in Dubai, though it is created by the Japanese not the Arabs. All we do is pay for someone else to do our work. This is why I believe someday Dubai will fall for being so dependent. While Japan on the other hand did all the work by itself. It tried so hard to achieve it's goal and let me say this! they have not failed. Even though damaged by the war they still did not give up instead they had more hope than they ever did. People like them should be admired.
Dubai has very sweet and nice people here. It's a free country that respects all. You might counter racists but racists exist all over the globe. Arabs here are a bit close minded but they are very nice people. Dubai is a very pretty place, and loaded with nice people. If they were not so dependent I would say that Dubai is the best city ever but sadly ...
To me, Japan IS the greatest place EVER! I never met a Japanese but when we studied " The Japanese history " this year in school, I started to admire them! not for their Sugoi animes or their kawaii manga but for their courage and bravery.
Japan is indeed the greatest country.
Dubai is the greatest city.
Do not mistake between " City " and " Country ".
With all love

As UAE citizen, I have to thank you for your sweet talk about dubai :-)
Even though I am not from Dubai, but my relatives are there and we always visit them from time to another.
what you said about being dependent is true, but I think they are moving toward the independence. I think Shiekh Mohammaed Ibn Rashed the president of Dubai is doing his best in supporting the local people projects. He established many institutions to support them with the technical consulting and the money as well. I think they are moving toward the independence and I hope they will reach it some day.
But to be honest with you, I don't like going to Dubai, because of the sooo much crowd there. it makes me crazy just to wait for a long time inside the car to move to the other street :relief:
I like to visit japan one day, I am interested in the culture, language and everything there.......I really hope to go there one day :(
