I've decided to apply for Monbusho scholarship to read Philosophy. I would've preferred a joint course with Physics and Philosophy but apparently neither the scholarship or Jap universities offer them jointly (am I right?). It's worth mentioning that I intend to do a "standard", if you want, Philosophy degree, not Chinese Phil or History of Phil.

Hence, I am looking for top universities for Philosophy (humanities) in Japan.

I've been looking at the crème of top 30s (nigelward.com). I do not know an awful lot on course structure, duration, study format (partly due to web sites being in Japanese) etc. so I'd like to get some references to look at. Another problem is also my competence in Japanese to do an essay-based degree such as Philosophy. Would you reckon Monbusho would let me read for it, after passing the preparatory course in Japan, even though my Japanese is equivalent to the level of Genki I textbook at the moment?
I would not be equally excited if I were to do it in English there (is there a possibility?) but it would certainly be an open option. I'd very much like to brush up my Japanese to fluency throughout the uni so my preference lies in doing it in Japanese. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.
