Keanu Reeves will lead the cast of Universal's samurai epic 47 Ronin.
Based on a true story, the movie will revolve around a warrior who leads a group of swordsmen to avenge the death of their master in 1702.
47 Ronin will combine the fantasy elements seen in the Lord Of The Rings franchise with the realistic battle scenes portrayed in Gladiator, reports Variety. Wanted writer Chris Morgan is penning the screenplay.

I don't know how it will look like, but the original is

I wonder how Hollywood will interpret the old Japanese "loyalty to master" into modern film.

WTF does this even MEAN!? Why would you pick a white guy for a Japanese movie about ronin hundreds of years ago... How could it POSSIBLE have elements of fantasy seen in Lords of the Ring, and at the same time be compared to Gladiator which wasn't even historical nor realistic??

This sounds like a disaster of a movie akin to the hurricane Katrina of film... seriously. Next we will have bullet time thrown in along with it being set in an alternate version of the future in the PAST! Yeah...

I think this is much too serious of a story and subject to be made into a movie with Keanu Reeves of all people.

I seriously doubt he knows the story of the 47 Ronin and the example of giri that they set. I seriously doubt that he knows the meaning of the word, literally or figuratively.

I'm not really clear on what they have in mind. Is the idea to have a fantasy story inspired by the original but happening in an imaginary country, or is it actually supposed to be the story of the 47 Ronin with a pointless gaijin thrown in?

I searched a little but couldn't find an answer to that. Truthfully, I don't care enough to keep looking, but if someone finds out I would be curious to hear.
