View Full Version : What's the role of adult video industry in Japan?
Just out of curiosity how do ordinary Japanese view this business? How do the parents in Japan explain things like this to their kids? Erotic industries are generally banned in China, but still lots and lots accesses are available through online proxy servers, or underground establishment. Obviously this is not the right way to go.

explain things like what? How do you expect the attitude towards the adult industry to be that much different than anywhere else?

I don't know how parents explain this things to their children, but I can tell you something from personal experience:
I lived with a Japanese family for 7 months. This family had a little 8-year old boy and the mother just really told him that porn is bad because 90% of porn actors/actresses are sex slaves or kidnapped and forced to do it. I don't really know how but this little boy knew exactly what it was and everytime there was a 'sex' reference everyone just laughed at the table. This being said, I think that Japanese don't really think porn nor anything sex-related is bad by any means.

The same as the every other country in the world that has a porn industry:
Some people want to whack off. Some people want to make money.
People who want to make money make porn movies.
People who want to whack off give money to them for the porn movies.
Some people whack off.
Some people make money.
Everyone's happy. Except China presumably, where porn is banned and where Chinese men outnumber Chinese women due to the 1 child policy (Women are viewed as useless so kill female babies until you get a male one).

What about those who don't want people to whack off and blur out all the juicy bits?

As it turns out, one of my friends from college now works for a Japanese Pay-per-view service. Apparently, about 90% of all their programming is porn. Guess there's quite a demand for it.

They should learn about the "off" button.
and blur out all the juicy bits?
The censorship of Japanese porn is unfortunate but even that has its good points: In trying to arouse porn-viewers, the censorship law has forced porn manufacturers to be extra creative and innovative when it comes to porn.
Case in point: Name another country that has incorporated eels and blended bugs in their pornography videos.
And that's just the start.
I have always wondered why some asian adult videos are seoncored :relief:

You are right, I have to thank the industry for inventing a whole hentai subgenre of tentacle rape. Urutsukidoji banzai! Banzai! :D Guess the Dream of the Fisherman's Wife offered some inspiration too. Dream of the Fisherman's Wife banzai! Banzai! Lol.

Dream of the Fisherman's Wife is art that should be respected and joins the likes of da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Van Gogh's The Starry Night and Dali's The Persistence of Memory in the annals of artistic history.
And I'm sure it was good masturbation fodder for many a samurai back then too so it's got all bases covered!
