View Full Version : って
In the sentence 人生って大変だね, what does って mean? It doesn't seem to have the usual quote function.

I believe this って is short for というのは.

As far as I've experienced it, most of the time, って replaces と言う or と聞く.
In casual Japanese, it might also (Occasionally) replace は, which I think is the case here
That is the quote function I mentioned and I don't see what purpose it serves in that sentence. I mean, I wouldn't say 今日ってさむいです。
Oh. OK dreamer, just saw your post. Replacing は would make sense.
