This (http://www.islamonline.net/English/ramadan/ramadan_news/27.shtml) says there are 10,000 Japanese who are Muslims in the entire country of Japan.
This (http://www.islamonline.net/english/News/2004-07/16/article06.shtml) article states:
It's a familiar tale for Japan 's Muslims, who number about 100,000 – more than 90 percent of whom are not Japanese.
So, it doesn't look like it's 2 million, or even 200,000, Japanese Muslims in Japan.

Japanese muslims, Japanese christains, I don't care, really. I would be very happy, and of course surprised that a Japanese would have any kind of religious belief. Since their society isn't exactly religious orientated. :yeahh:
Of course but there are... So let us dream, please ! :relief:
I'd like to meet a muslim Japanese, it would be so... waouw ! Anyway, I wish you welcome al_khattabi and enjoy ! (Belgium huh ?!)

i love japonese people and i want make a rolationship with.
In Japan the mind set (according to all the Japanese people I've known) is that you are FIRST Japanese. Your religion will come second to that. It is when western types of religious thought come in and tell their believers that the faith they follow is more important that troubles arise.
Personally I'd like people to see all people first AS people and everything else as something that is personal and should not be a consideration in how you interact with that person. Bu tthen again I also think people should be required to be held accountable for their actions and silly things like that. :-)
Well you know Ikyoto I think that to be Japanese and to be religious (to believe) are two different things...
I'm not gonna judge someone because he doesn't believe but I'll have more affinities with a muslim than with an atheist because we have more in common. I mean, it's not a bad thing, it's normal ! Your nationality is a thing, your religion is another one (a private one).
I'm tired and I can't develop more, I'm sorry. Good evening people (yes it's 2.33 AM here) :)

A big J-used car auction company, maybe in Chiba or somewhere, builds a place to practice and a halal restaurant in their site after increased buyers from muslim countries.
Car owners in Japan expect higher resell value.
The company expects more buyers.
The buyers expects profits in the countries they're from.
win-win-win situation, isn't it?
You may be a bit too sarcastic if you'd call this as just a biz.

I am a new member in the JF. I was searching for muslim people in Japan because I like Japanese, and I am interested in knowing more about them. However, since i live in Saudi Arabia, you can play video games of all kinds almost. Restrictions are limited to those which are prohibited by law and they are few.
I will be happy to provide you with more information about suadi arabia or about Islam.
wish you good luck.

Hi kirei
The sources of the numbers are articles, I would assume that the most frequent number I had read was 200,000. However I am very interested in knowing the exact number from trusted sources. I am a muslim and I was in Tokyo last September. I like the Japanese and their way of respect to their work and other people.

Greetings there too eemaan san !! I have been behind in greeting the newcomers to the forum this past week or so, and thus if I had missed you, I apologize.
In that you have chosen the Islamic belief system to adopt for the religious element of your being, I'd like to extend the invitation to drop by the Europe Forum, General Discussion area, 'Religion and Philosophy' fora, and share your thoughts, education, and experience with us in our discussion and 'almost' debate on the good and bad, truthful and false, historical and social elements of various belief systems, such as Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and so on.
We always make an effort to keep things as cool as possible there, and as broad as possible in opinions, and would be interested in learnin more about some of the factors of Islamic thought from those who practice such.
Welcome to the forum, and I hope to see you around later. Of course the forum is large, and there are many places to enjoy and post at. See you !!

eeman do you speak japanese and did you ever go to Japan ? I think you can have a free japanese version of Qur'an (paper version) if you contact a saudi embassy or a dawa organisation.
I wonder how japanese muslims deal with the bowing tradition as it is not permited in Islam.
Sorry for my bad english :)

Thanks bossel, very kind of you, so, you see you have a picture of Spock, are you a Trekkie? Is space more your thing than religion, and one last question, I hope you don't mind, since you're an atheist, why do you spend so much time and effort trying to refute Islam? Not in a bad way, but like, is it because you think we're wasting our time and you want to save us 'wasting our lives' or just because? Cos I only came to bring a message, and see if anyone would be receptive and accept, not to belittle or argue, cos for me I believe I have truth (Yes I know you disagree!) but I feel it is so important that I have to share it with people, otherwise I'd feel selfish, like I'd won the lottery and not shared my winnings...Just wondered.
Sakina, no I can't speak Japanese unfortunately, I'll PM you later insha'Allah.
Yeah, I'm definitely more in favour of space exploration than of promoting religion (but not a real trekkie, Spock was just some kind of idol when I was a kid). I'm not trying to refute Islam (or any other religion) as such. If you want to believe, then be it. But if I smell propaganda or proselytising efforts that may lead to an averse reaction, esp. when someone comes up with alleged historical facts.
But whether I react obviously also depends on the time I have at hand & how frustrated I am about my programming efforts. It also depends on how often I had the very same discussion already (& how long the last one is ago). Because, it gets boring after a while, if you have to refute the very same arguments (often copied from the very same websites) over & over again.
Well, we shouldn't disturb this discussion too much. If you have more questions, you could PM me, or open a new thread on "why atheists try to refute [insert favourite religion here]".
When you can tell me why you don't beleive in other Gods you'll understand why I don't beleive in yours ;)

You could be born into a muslim family or convert. You don't have to be a specific nationality to be a muslim. Cat Stevens is English and he converted and became Yusaf Islam; Cassius Clay is American converted and became Muhammad Ali. They both retain their nationality. It works for anyone. William Shatner converted to Judaism, but he is still Canadian.

"Anyone can be a muslim" is said by muslims, why don't they say "Any Muslim can be a non-muslim"? Islam is full of fallacy and culture-aggression.
It is true that China has tiny muslims who are the descendants of persian or Turki, none of them is Han-Chinese.
So I wonder how can clara be a muslim because I consider Chinese is the most difficult people to assimilate even than Jews.

Are you a muslim? Do you know a little about Islam?
I don't care English, American,Canadian or any other people convert to muslim because I respect muslim and Islam, but I opppose Chinese people convert to muslim.
reason:
1)Islam is full of fallacy.muslim always say "Anyone can be a muslim" but never say "Any Muslim can be a non-muslim", that words, Islam is like a boat which is easy to enter in but difficult to come out for you and your descendants.
2)Islam is full of culture-aggression. Muslim always say they are the most excellence people in the universe and a true muslim must discard all your former nationalities and become a "new" guy with "new" habits. maybe you can't discard your former nationalities clearly but how could your sons and your grandsons?
3)All muslims are brothers. This means an English,American or Canadian could be a brother of Arabs. Can I ask a muslim who is your more conversant brethren between a foreign muslim and a native non-muslim?
I don't oppose Islam indeed, Islam has many advantages and we should learn from, but learning from you doesn't imply I must become a muslim.

Ha, ha, ha, me a muslim. You have never read any of my other posts or threads on religion. No, I am not, I'm an atheist, but I do know a 'little' about Islam
I don't care English, American,Canadian or any other people convert to muslim because I respect muslim and Islam, but I opppose Chinese people convert to muslim.
reason:
1)Islam is full of fallacy.muslim always say "Anyone can be a muslim" but never say "Any Muslim can be a non-muslim",
Any religion says this. not just Islam. Christian missionaries will go around saying "you too can know the love of Jesus". Don't be so naive.
Islam is like a boat which is easy to enter in but difficult to come out for you and your descendants. Anyone can leave any religion. The followers don't like it because to them it is an insult on their beliefs and they genuienly feel that the person leaving is committing their soul to eternal damnation. Again this can apply to any religion, especially the Judeo-christian religions. You want religions that are really difficult to leave look at the modern cults such as Jehovah Witnesses, Moonies and Scientology.
2)Islam is full of culture-aggression. Muslim always say they are the most excellence people in the universe and a true muslim must discard all your former nationalities and become a "new" guy with "new" habits. maybe you can't discard your former nationalities clearly but how could your sons and your grandsons?
Incorrect. The idea that Islam is against cultures in a fairly new development within Islam, and then in only some branches. It is not one of it founders original teachings. When Islam first came to the fore and spread, other religions had a lot more freedom within its boundaries than within a Christain led country. The Jews in Spain lived in peace for almost 800 years when it was held by the Muslims. When the Muslims were eventually driven out of Spain by the Catholics the Jews were forced to convert to Christainity or leave the country. Those that didn't were killed.
"All Christian are brothers", a phrase used constantly by Christians. Your aguments against Chinese converting to Islam sounds it is more fueled by nationalism rather than a set of realistic arguments. All arguments you have used can be said of any nationality. In Europe it can be said we are a Christian people, it is an offense to our God that people convert to Islam. It still doesn't stop people. Coversion to a religion has nothing to do with nationality or race. Conversion is based on what a person reads and decides to believe in. The choice is personal.
子曰:君子和而不同,小人同而不和
Translation: Confucius said in 3000 years ago:The superior man agrees with others without being an echo; The mean man echoes without being in agreement.'
Little difficult as the man was born only 2500 years ago.
K'ung Fu Tzu (commonly pronounced Confucius in English) was born in 551 BCE in the state of Lu (modern day Shantung Province). He lived during the Chou dynasty, an era known for its moral laxity. Later in life, he wandered through many states of China, giving advice to their rulers. He accumulated a small band of students during this time. The last years of his life were spent back in Lu, where he devoted himself to teaching.

I'm glad someone said something about his comments. Really though, you're confusing religion with ethnicity. Any ethnicity can be muslim, christian, buddhist, satanist, whatever the heck you want but with that EVERY and I mean EVERY religion will of course look at you like an outsider if you leave it. It's not different for any religion. So, why you're picking on Islam is beyond me since it's the same with every religion and believe me I have my exposure to religions.
Ha, ha, ha, me a muslim. You have never read any of my other posts or threads on religion. No, I am not, I'm an atheist, but I do know a 'little' about Islam
Any religion says this. not just Islam. Christian missionaries will go around saying "you too can know the love of Jesus". Don't be so naive.

QUOTE=Mycernius;374919]Any religion says this. not just Islam.[/QUOTE]
It is wrong. Buddhism never say so, if a buddhist do something wrong, he will be denied as a monk even he say himself a buddhist aloudly.

This is the typical though and behaviors with monotheism. Buddhism,Taoism,Hinduism,Shintoism don't think so.
Conversion is based on what a person reads and decides to believe in. The choice is personal.

"Conversion is based on what a person" maybe true. but how the muslims do with non-muslims? high-tax? force-invadation? Why muslima want to put in force Islamic law to all people not just to himself?
As far as Confucius, you are right,I have made a mistake.
Hi there,
My name is Farzana. I'm not a japanese but a bengali muslim living in the UK.

Hi there Farzana san !! Welcome to Jref. It migh be a good thing to make an introduction in the member's Introduction area. I hope you join in with us and have a great time sharing and learning with us all !
Perhaps some who are Muslem will answer to you soon enough--although I am fairly certain that there are no Japanese nationals on the forum who are Muslem. . . just some who live in other countries, or at least one lady I know of who is from a mixed marriage, living in UK, and who is a practicing Muslem.
I hope to talk to you later !! MM

Hey everyone just wanted to shout out a hello in this post. Im muslim livin in Japan originally from UAE. Madyf, good luck bro it will be a tough month. 1st ramadan here for me 2.
Hi everybody, Hajimemashite I’m Kuwaiti Muslim student living in Japan from many years ago. This is my first “post”, and I hope you enjoy it.
The first Muslim Japanese ever known are Mitsutaro Takaoka who converted to Islam in 1909 and took the name Omar Yamaoka.....and the Kobe Mosque built in 1935 (which is the only remaining mosque in Japan nowadays) and the Tokyo Mosque built in 1938.
Ref.
http://members.tripod.com/worldupdates/islamintheworld/id28.htm[/U]
And there are over than 20 Mosques, and 14 Islamic organizations in japan.
Ref.
http://islam3.hp.infoseek.co.jp/benri/e_benriindex.htm
So, if we look at these mosques and organizations homepages. we will know that half of them controlled by 100% Japanese Muslims. and the other half are organized by foreigners.
But the question is “why our friend MtoM really want to talk to Japanese Muslims??”
In my opinion, he want something harder !as he said since 2003…. A word to the wise is enough.((enna allabeba bel esharati aflame))

Interesting random bump, but in Britain, apparently 92% of the population is white.
Now, making the assupmtion not even a full percentage point of these are of Muslim faith, and alot fo British immigrants who have Muslim roots may have become lax in their observance or given it up entirely, Britain is still considored to have a strong Muslim presence.
Now considoring the statistics in Japan, the number of Japanese muslims must be so small as to make the prospect of running into one pretty slim.

I think you'll find that the original poster has long since been gone...no word at all from that person, so who knows? There was some exchange by him, then nothing. I hope to talk to you later !!
ps. an introduction of yourself in the Members' Lounge, on the Introduce yourself sub-fora, might be a good idea...then, more folks can meet you.
Anyway, I guess that's true about being Japanese. Cultures clash sometimes. I understand this, but what about the other religions? Not that I wanted to say that the SDA religion was the only true religion. We consider ourselves mainly Christians first and foremost, not SDAs. The Muslim community is vast as well, but with what was said to be only a few number I suppose there are much fewer SDAs.
Thanks for the input about Muslims. So what else about SDAs?

Since you are half Chinese, then how can you become a muslim?
I am curious.
A Muslim is a person who's religion is Islam. ^__^
Same as being a Buddist, Shintoist, Catholic, etc. ^__^ There is one region that has Chinese Muslims. Being Chinese is the same as being African. Race doesn't matter, and religion too. We're all the same. :p

I didn't know Meiji brand is halal...I don't think any brand of food is certified as halal. But Masha'Allah, you live in Malaysia, you guys have halal Japanese restaurants there, that's a dream for me.
As far as buying food...I eat Japanese food, but I don't live in Japan. Most important thing is checking the ingredients in the back of the product. A lot of noodle dishes contain fish extract, which we can eat insha'Allah, but some noodles for example, contain pork fat, which we don't eat.
Also, in Japan you can get fresh fish, but not the marinated kind, which many times contains sake (rice wine).

First of all, I advice you to learn some basic words and sentences. Cos, it is really difficult to communicate with Japanese with other languages including English. But still you will like their politeness and kindness.
Good luck from now!
Actually I know a bit. Not enough to communicate but enough to spur me to study the language. All the anime watching pays off eh?
Ebu Huzeyfe
Feb 2, 2007, 16:42
That is better. In fact, I had got difficulties from airport in language (communicating). The good thing, my spouse speaks Japanese fluently. It helped me a lot.
But I appreciate them. Cos, the second language, specially English, French, Spanish etc..., is the sign of colonizing. Japan has escaped from it. :-)
Yeah so I'm gonna learn the language. Know any good links? How about any contacts in Japan?
Ebu Huzeyfe

Regarding addresses, I must tell you sorry, unfortunately... Try to enjoy your jorney... Always remember that Japan -specailly Tokyo- is indeed is expensive..

I was hoping to get in contact with some of the imams that side and discuss the situation of muslims, etc.

I'm sorry to tell you this but the reason why Japanese people are respectful is because we're foreigners and they don't treat us like citizens. ^^;;; If you were a full-blood Japanese citizen, they treat you like a normal person. :relief: I have full-blooded Japanese friends, and one of them, who lived here for few years, said that they don't treat respectfully towards other citizens locally.

In Fact, Islam is a relegion that involve many rules and manners designed by Allah (The Creator). These rules and manners are absolutely true, because Allah create all creatures including human being and He is the most one know the right and useful for human and that wrong and unuseful for man. these rules and mannars are all present in holly quran, the holly book from Allah to his prophit Mohammad. on another hand, Muslem should opey the orders and rules desgined by Allah. In fact not all muslims do that, like any nation rules not all people opey the rules. So, muslims may not appear in islamic picture needed by Allah. In these cases many non-muslims think that islam is not good, but in fact, Islam is the god relegion and absolutely true, but not all muslims appear in the well needed islamic manners.

i would want to meet Japanese Muslims....because Japanese people as in general are so much like Muslims...
is it only me or is the kamikaze and the samurai so similar to a mujahed
They do share some ideas (for instance the kamikaze suicide attacks can be though to be the same as an attack by one of today's suicide bombers. In addtion a samurai's acceptance of death serving his master might be thought to be the same as a suicide bombers acceptance of his death serving his god) but, if you look deeper, they are not the same at all.
One could argue that a samurai would not consider your run of the mill suicide bomber a warrior nor would a kamikaze think hitting anything other then a direct threat to his home land a viable death. Of course not all mujahed are suicide bombers and there are no samurai or kamikaze around to ask what they think.

thanks for your reply bro :-) :-)
not that i mean bad terrorists who claim to be mujahed..
a mujahed is a pure person who never hurts innocent people, and never does any violent act in some one else's home land....he is a person who if obliged to fight would do so with great courage and willingness to battle till death...against soldiers (men in uniform, armed personnel ...brave man vs brave man)
never civilians as terrorists do....
the media tries to picture terrorists as mujahed..and tries to picture all righteous resistance as terrorism....which is wrong! :souka:

greetings liver shot....
thank you for your nice words..well we lebanese people have a custom of welcoming people with open arms...i have had freinds come over from forign countties, and we all enjoyed seeing the wonders of this land.
Beirut is the center of all matters here in lebanon, so of course i have been there often, i have lived there for two years when i was studying in the Beirut Arab University.
it is an awesome city...still lives up to its name "Paris of the east"
people there never sleep, they live their lives to its limits.
i bet you would love lebanon, and you will meet a lot of nice people who you will call freinds for the rest of your life.
how ever as great as lebanon sounds, it is passing through critical times...security sucks...fights are accuring, and as if the whole area is fueld and the burning match is about to be droped...
just two ays ago, three were killed and 8 were wounded in a gun fight...that wasnt so far away from where i live.

Yeah, it is truly a tragedy about what is happening in Lebanon as far as the fighting. It's unfair to all the peaceful Lebanese to have to watch their country be torn apart. I wish you all the best and hope you have peace in your country soon.

Hello there mimoza san ! WELCOME to JREF !! Please spend time with us and check out the whole forum and all, and you will be able to find out much information about Japan before you come.
Now, if I may here, I'd like to again, point out that this thread is not for chit chat, nor for introductions, actually. It is for talking about how Islam effects/affects Japan, or vice versa. As they say in Japan...onegaishimasu !! (please do me favor !!)

Konbanwa everyone!
I notice that when Japanese people bow and kneel, it is very much like the prayer of a Muslim almost, only we believe that only God is worthy to be bowed and prostrated to.
In Islam we are taught that every nation on earth was sent a messenger to call to the oneness of God, and so my thinking is that the beautiful manners of the Japanese are left over maybe after centuries, of what the Prophet who was sent to Japan taught. And over time the message was destorted and people began to bow to people instead, and of course God knows best!
Thoughts?

Dec 21, 2007, 14:05
nice way to view it!
nice manners are inherited from a a specific believe system..might be from the abrahamic believes, a philosophy, a civil law....etc
the matter is similaraties between bushido and the islamic warrior code are so strong....
shinto politeness and islamic teachings are so similar as well.
but i never thought some one will agree to that also :-) or even notice

Hello there eemaan san ! Long time no see...I hope you have been fine, and it's good to see you again.
I would think it'd be something to look into, but at the moment, doubt that we would be able to find any connection because of the age of the cultural movement. Since this thread would be for such a matter, doing it here is fine. I would suggest, however, that you stick with it if you were to start. You will likely find some objections to some of your propositions, so I think it would be good to make sure you have sources and data...and that would have to be more than just a couple of on-line sites.
I would encourage you to do that though !! Study and learning is such a great thing. I'll let you make the first post as to just where that idea comes from in the first place, and the details behind it, since I am not familiar with it.

Hi minna-san. My name is Abdul Rahman, living in Singapore. I learnt Japanese since November 2004 and still learning til now. Working as a full-time analyst programmer for a local-based MNC. Cheh so much for MNC. If possible looking towards working for an actual MNC in Japan. Insya-Allah. Only Allah knows what's best for me. Anyway, I have questions and I need to find answers.
It's about the Culture and Religion in Japan. It seems that it's all mixed together. How do you Muslim fellas managed to get your non-Muslim Japanese girls to convert and how do you cope after that? It's amazing and I've yet to find out how. I'm quite weak in my own religion so I'm working towards it.
I wished to find answers. And I will try my very best, Insya-Allah, to attain the answers to my questions. And I will share the knowledge of what I have with others too.
I have sites too.
Here are some links ...
hisociety.jp - Hokkaido Islamic Society
park2.itc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/tuics/mosques.htm - Mosques in Japan
If you do have anything for me, please do contact me.
And if you guys want to come down to Singapore, please do not be shy to contact me too. I will try the very best in my effort to show you around Singapore. If you're a Japanese Muslim, even better. I can show you Singapore. You can help me improve my Japanese. You can help me find my answers.
There are so many halal food places in Singapore. There's more to meat than pork. LOL. ok ok jk jk.
I've been to Japan 4 times. Still want to go there. Best is to visit the mosques. I'm sick and tired of Anime and manga. I'll go for more better things. Next plan is to visit all mosques in Japan. Insya-Allah.
First things first, improve myself.
I wish for the best of everyone. Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
Thanks for reading. If you have contacts or any point of references, it'll be greatly appreciated.

i always worry for my gf... used to always asked her... so who touched you today? lol... until she gets the idea... :okashii:
AND what's up with the TV man... why are there boobs on TV? what if there were kids watching... I was watching TV and saw them... turned away and go... 'what in the blazing world? I don't get that in my country.' then after that... a hand went over my face with words going, 'MINAIDE'... oh i so love her... :-)
when they love you... they really love you dude... you feel choked sometimes... well marriage is something that we can predict... who we will marry... who we will fall in love with... God knows His ways... just a little bit of effort... He'll let you see the one for you...
anyway... good luck...

Kon'nich wa, minna-san!
Thinking of how many Japanese muslims I've met till now, I'm quite surprised. Especially when I haven't visited Japan yet. I knew 3 Japanese muslim women (unfortunately lost contact with them when they moved back). I also met a Japanese muslim professor when he came to my mother's workplace a few years ago to talk about Islam in Japan. And I hear that a Japanese professor in my college is muslim.
The best way to contact Japanese muslims if you're outside Japan, I think, would be to contact the Islamic Center, and also check out Muslim penpal sites. A friend of mine had told me of a site, but I can't remember what it was.

Islam is monotheistic and religions in japan are pantheistic. Pantheistic beliefs revere nature and all living beings(e.g. human beings) in the entire cosmos with such awe and deep respect with the belief that they are one with the entire cosmos. God or gods (Kami as called in Nihongo) symbolizes these forces of nature and it also related to their own lives. This idea is very much common to Buddhist beleifs as well. Thus, Buddhism and Shinto(indigenous religion in japan) go hand in hand. However, Shinto lacks philosophical truth while Buddhism delves into practise and philosophical truth embodied in it.
The difference between monotheistic religions like Islam and its sister faith Judeo-Christian religions(western religions) and pantheistic religions such as represented by Buddhism or shinto(eastern religions) is that western religion like Islam tends to be anthropocentric, placing humanity at the apex of the natural order. Buddhism in particular, on the other hand, views humankind as a part of nature, supporting and giving rise to the notion of bioethics. Since every individual is connected to everything on earth, the destiny of our planet is influenced by the individual's actions. This impersonal truth is viewed in Buddhism as Mystic Law(Dharma) which underlies all creation. This law or truth This truth is eternal and boundless. It is present always and everywhere. In this sense, the law of life is not the exclusive property of a certain religious group, or to a prophet or priest. The truth is open equally to everyone.
The ultimate and all-abiding law(mystic law) that the Buddha perceived may be another name for some people's concept of God. On the other hand, a person who cannot believe in an anthropomorphic God can see an underlying energy to the universe. The breadth of Buddhism encompasses both views and focuses on the individual.
There is no one to blame - and no one to implore for salvation. In Buddhism, no God or supernatural entity plans and shapes our fates. In Western religion, you can bring yourself closer to God through your faith, but you can never become God. In Buddhism, one could never be separate from the wisdom of God, because the ultimate wisdom already exists in the heart of every person.

And over time the message was destorted and people began to bow to people instead, and of course God knows best!
Thoughts?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Islam and other religions and culture do not share the same practise or beleifs with Islam as founded by Muhammad who is an arab. Do not compare Islamic culture as prefect while others are inferior. This kind of thingking or belief is wrong!!
Pre-Islamic culture(indigenous arabians) and japanese cultures and beleifs are somewhat in common but they are two distinct cultures. Pre-islamic culture believes on gods and revere nature quite similar to Shinto. Kneeling and bowing to gods or nature is the common practises of ancient or native religions across cultures not only the arabs like my in country before christianity and Islamization in Philippines native filipinos do kneel and bow during their religious rituals. So it is not unique to Islam because it is common practises to ancient arabs or, or asian religions.

most of japanese universities has ( Arabic language and islamic studying ) .... some japanese students study that but they're not muslim and other declare the islam ...
one japanese girl study that and she intered to islam and put hijab and complete studying in Aleppo university and she can speak Arabic very well ....
lucky i'm muslim and i hope every one to inter to it ....

How can you oppose those who want to convert to Islam? Strange. Everyone can choose whatever religion they want. My dad's a Chinese/Buddhist converted to Muslim and my mom's a Malay/Muslim. He's still a Chinese and during Chinese New Year, we as a family will go visit our Ah Ma (or also known as grandmother) It's his wish to convert. No one forced him to become a Muslim. Also, in Singapore, there are muslims who convert to other religions. It's really up to them. It's not true to discard former nationalities. What do you mean by that? Anyway, Muslims are able to adopt other cultures and traditions eg. Muslims can have Chinese names (my chinese name is Lin Xin Ru) Muslims can use chopsticks to eat, Muslims can do yoga, Muslims can play ping pong, Muslims can do taichi, Muslims can participate in Chinese caligraphy - Basically, Muslims can do many things as long as Muslims know their basic Islamic principles. All Muslims are brothers and sisters - regardless of race (skin colour), language and attitude. Yep, true that learning from Islam doesn't need you to be a Muslim. An example, as you can see in Singapore, cigarettes are being cut down. Islam teaches us that smoking is best not to be consumed because it gets you addicted and as you know, it can cause many diseases such as colon cancer. Hopefully, this will clear your doubt about Islam.

I'm afraid many people consider Islam a dangerous religion nowadays because of all the fanatic extremists. I think Japanese are very wary of this image and tend to shy away from the religion.
Have you ever studied Zen? If you are in Japan, I encourage you to try it rather than looking for Japanese coverts.

i wonder if islamic countries and muslim people studied other eastern religions ecpecially Buddhism...i have known muslim-asian people converted to Buddhism particularly in Nichiren Buddhism...i have friend also an ex-muslim who is practicing nichiren buddhism now...there are also buddhists working and living in arab-muslim countries..i have known there were nichiren buddhist community group in the muslim-arab world...its good to see there were arab-buddhist also....
my wish that islamic countries are being more tolerant to other religions rather than shunning all other religious groups...

my country for example doesn't teach any other religion, to tell the truth it doesn't either teach our religion "Islam" so our people are ignorants about their own religion and that's why they converts to other religion ;) it's not because they found that Islam is not truth, they don't know anything about it ;)

I guess, that's basically the same thing with other religions not only in islam. But not all convert to other religions or become apostates its because they dont know about their religious beliefs or teachings. For instance, my ex-muslim friend for 4 years, who was a christian before, had studied islamic theology in one of the Islamic center in the Philippines. He is pretty much indoctrinated with Islam and have deep faith in its beleifs. However, when he opened his minds and encountered Nichiren Buddhism. He give it a try and find buddhist philosophy and practise more appealing and working in his daily life. He knew that islamic and buddhist principles are different in the perspectives on the view of life..

So Islam is the true religion huh and all the other religions are mistaken? Funny thing is that almost every religion seems to suggest this.

that is what islam teaches and indoctrinating muslims to believe in without questioning their beliefs... and telling you what to believe and what not to believe..i dont buy this kind of blind faith..

did you see a catholic guy saying: "I'm catholic but I think that Buddhism is the truth ". so why is he catholic ?
Nichiren :
I maintain what I sayed, if he knewed the truth about Islam, he hadn't to change religion ;)
and the idea about he studied in an Islamic Center isn't a proof that he knows all about Islam ^^ and I add that the allmost of Muslims in the world don't know what are the basics of Islam and they pretend to know everything

We'll, the truth about islam may not be the ultimate truth or it might be the teachings of islam is not ultimate or profound for others or disagree with islamic teachings/principles.. that is why intellectual or no-intellectual people leave islam perhaps looking for another religious teacher/sage or become apostate...

Buddhism is sometimes viewed as a philosophy rarther than a religion, especially that it doesn't impose a belief in a universal daddy like most religions. This means that you may be buddhist while belonging to a relatively liberal denomination of some religion.
Also being "Catholic", "Muslim", "Jewish", you name it, may be a reference to one's culture rather than one's religious beliefs. I have a Christian friend who considers herself culturally Jewish, and some agnostic and atheist friends who consider themselves culturally Muslim.

I don't see why one should know "all" about a religion in order to determine whether they want to convert to it or not.. knowing the basics would be enough, and only when you agree with those basics would you pursue your self-query within that religion. Otherwise you'd just look somewhere else..
And using your very own logic: do you know all about Buddhism? Judaism? Hinduism? Even Islam? How can you be so sure that Islam is the adequate religion for you, even the one true religion as you say, if you don't have full knowledge of all other religions?

in this sense, Gautama Buddha advice those seekers of the way:
"Don't believe in anything simply because you heard it.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.
Do not believe in anything because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
But after observation and analysis, you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept and live up to it."

I appreciate it. I hope that islamic countries respect other faiths and people practise freely without fear or coercion especially in the arab countries. Its good to know that my fellow SGI-buddhist members in dubai had congregate themselves working to connect people irregardless of race or religion through SGI ideals for peace, culture and education.

This is a SECTION in JREF to discuss religion in Japan, nothing more. No proselytizing, please! :okashii:

1, Please take a look at the number of Japanese people on the forums. Not too high a number right?
2, Now consider how many of them are expressed Buddhist. 0?
This is a forum for those interested in Japan. That doesn't mean we're all interested in Buddhism. Buddhism in our contemporary world plays a very small role in the captivated gaijin's life. An additional thing. I am pretty convinced that Japanese people know very well what Buddhism is about and if they don't, despite the exposure to it in their own country... they don't give a toss.
The main idea behind the forum is to provide non-Japanese people with information. I mean, honestly, whats being said here on the forums is very often common knowledge to a Japanese person, because it is taking place right around him or her.
There and thousands of people visit the site, many of whom follow different faiths or none at all. A religious bias would be totally unjustified and pointless. The reason jref is a more or less healthy 'community' is because there is no 'head honcho' religion. Keep petty little religious rivalries the hell out of here. No one gives a damn about the conflict of faiths, because they never end. Both parties cite scripture and more and more scripture or some other medium for the countless lies and the debate goes on and on and on until the members age and die.
The day this forum develops a religious bias is the day the server should be smashed with a hammer and every last bit of data erased. Buddhism is no exception.

As epigene has already written, this is a section of the forum where people can discuss religion in Japan, so, the criteria for an appropriate topic in this section would be if it has something to do with a religion/religions and with Japan. The topic "Muslims in Japan" meets that criteria.
Another point made by epigene is that this is a place where people discuss those topics. We all know the difference between a religious meeting and a discussion group about religions, do we not?
We can talk about any religion as long as the topic has something to do with Japan.
