おとこのこのうえにあるボル
ボルのしたにいるおとこのこ
could someone please explain to me the meaning and difference between these two phrases?

I assume you can read kana then.
they are:
The ball that is above a/the boy (boy's-above-is-ball)
The boy that is below the/a ball (ball's-below-is boy)
respectively.
These are from rosetta stone right?
You might want to try buying a book that teaches you japanese grammar before giving you sentences to memorize. A very popular option is the textbook "Genki" you may find it here. (amazon.com)

yes... yes they are from RS :blush:
*sigh* you're not the first to recommend Genki, I might eventually buy it.
I'm still not sure how serious I am about learning Japanese, for now I'm content with RS and Tae Kim's website.

sure Tae kims site is really good, but you might want to get alittle farther into it (where he gets into noun phrases) before you continue with RS.
