Konichiwa!
I am new to the Japanese language and this forum! I started learning Japanese because of the game "My Japanese Coach". After about 3 weeks of playing the game told me about the Bases. After re-reading the stuff over and over i still didn't know what it was all about. So i went on the Internet and that cleared a lot, but now i don't understand something.
In base 2 the negative form is (noun/adjective)+masen.
So if i take taberu it becomes: Tabemasen
Now when i carried on reading, a website said that Base 1 is mainly used for creating negative verb endings.
So Taberu becomes: Tabenai
But Tabenai and Tabemasen have the same meaning then when do you use base 1 and when base 2?? :relief::?

Two different forms of the verb are mixed up here. ;-)

First of all, the very basic form (dictionary form) is "taberu" = to eat".
Its negative form is babenai.
Next, there's another form - polite form using "masu".
taberu (basic) - tabemasu (polite)
Negative form of "masu" is "masen".
tabenai (basic) - tabemasen (polite)
