Having recently read all of Tanizaki's novels that have been translated into english, and loved them all, I am curious to know how popular he is amongst younger Japanese. Particularly their take on his views on traditionalism vs. westernization. Tanizaki, it seems to me, was enamored by western culture in his youth, but then reverted to traditionalism as he got older. I suppose this is a natural course, as humans tend to seek the newest trends in their youth, and then have greater reverence for the past as they get older. Any thoughts on this subject will be greatly appreciated...
