I've played it, but I'm not really that good at it..eheh.. ^_^;
But hey... Have you heard of "Muthos"?
It's some cool gaming arcade that's supposed to be located somewhere in Tokyo..
I heard the DDR-geniouses hang there, so I'm really curious..
I'd like to go watch~ *>_<*

i've never heard of it, but mami (my japanese pen pal) says there's a popular game there called the taiko drum game or sumthin or ruther......lol...ruther....

Taruru~
Oct 19, 2003, 22:10
Yeah, I've seen that. Seems kinda hard, tho~
It's a taiko-drum simulation game... yah..like the title says. ^_^
And you use a drum and sticks. Very real, and the songs are so japanese. I've seen a boy do the "Doraemon"-theme, too. *>_<*

They should have more of the ParaPara over here!

I've attempted DDR a few times-nyo. My friends...now those are sum DDR worshipers. They play every chance they get. It's like a drug. I didn't even last 3 seconds on Max 300~~~>EVIL! I have yet to play the new one, but I've seen it surrounded by mass of freaks at the mall!
My only rant is when ppl hog the machines. :auch:
But to those of you who can do Heavy...you're not human.
I can't wait to see ppl try out that new Karaoke Revolution!:sing:
Dejiko's Party Night-nyo!

I would like to report that I can pass every song (except the stupid new paranoias) on heavy with an A and am indeed human.

A 6'8" human too. ^_^

Thank you for listening to me brag.

Nov 8, 2003, 17:18
One of my favorite routines of all time is DJ 8-Ball's Cafe Edit from AI2k1 I believe. It's classic breakdancing. Look for it on kazaa or something. It's really cool.

But recently I don't like "routines" as much as just dancing to the music, which I'm starting to get into. Much more fun than trying to get the best score.

Also, a note on my height. When I play at Gable House bowling alley, my head is like 3 inches from the ceiling, so I have to be extremely careful when I play. :)

I am also a DDR freak, now learning to play Doubles Heavy. Singles Heavy can clear almost every song except those fierce songs like Legend Of Max.....Will try to clear them!!! Cheers to DDR!!!

Jan 17, 2004, 09:15
I play DDR alot. I'm lucky to have a ps2 in my house and I have two mats. I guess I'm pretty good. I can't do all the heavy/maniac songs yet, but I'm working on it XD I try to play every day for a halfhour to a hour (ok maybe I'm a little obessed-_-) I learning to play double, yay fun! Some times when I go to the arcade and play it nerves me up because some people stare at you, then I mess up and my feet get mixed up -_- Long live DDR!! :D

Spike308
Jan 17, 2004, 09:55
playing in the arcade gets REALLY annoying when you have a cluster of about 100 people watching you, nad this is a first time playing. I have some experience now. I love the paranoia songs, even though they're a bit harder. I also noticed they sell soundtracks but they were expensive, so I just used all my fancy computer stuff, hooked my PS2 to my PC, and ripped the songs I liked. It's not illegal as long as I listen to them for my own personal use only too :)

What? Slightly illegal PC version? You mean DWI???

Spike308
Jan 18, 2004, 07:03
No, there's one called BeatMania online somewhere. It's a fanmade PC version with a cool remix between De-sire and Revenge. But it is illegal to redistrube copyrighted stuff and such. Ah well, what is DWI anyhow?

You can hook up your ps2 to the computer to rip songs? how do you do that? I know you can hook them up to the comp but I don't know how to rip the songs. I wish you could play online against people. Can you do that with the Xbox version? thats what I have heard, but then I have unreliable sources......

Off what suzu is talking about, I am a total DDR freak. Well, addict. I've only played it a couple of times, but before I'd even played I'd been very excited by the concept!

suzu
Jan 19, 2004, 11:34
hehe I am very much a addict. If I don't play for a day I start to twitch and can't stop moving. Its like I'm on crack or some thing (and I'm NOT)

darkrikku66
Jan 19, 2004, 11:38
lol ddr is an addiction game! i cant stop untill i can barly pick up my feet..but then i finally stop. sometimes before i go to sleep i can still see arrows!! ahahaa

Yeah, sometimes you will see blood on the dance panel of the arcade machine because the person before you had hurt the feet!!! I have seen it before in one of the arcade in my country!

darkrikku66
Jan 26, 2004, 02:00
wow that seems serious! but that just shows how many people in this world love DDR!!! and will do anything...even hurting your feet :ouch:

Spike308
Jan 26, 2004, 07:27
well, I know the pain of seeing eternal arrows... I play for about an hour, thne go to sleep, and for those 30 minutes before REM, I see all the arrows.. helps me notice what I didn't memorize

suzu
Jan 29, 2004, 10:27
at the arcade I go to they have a sign that says you have to wear shoes so they can't get bloddy. They wern't there awhile ago so I think someone got hurt or something. I envy some of the people who play so good, so I practice every day so someday I will be at their level. I don't talk to them much its like being in the presense of god (or something like that-_-)

Spike308
Jan 30, 2004, 06:23
presence of a supreme deity... I know that feeling. I get it when I look at my Lain Wallscroll during the ceremony. My local YMCA is getting a DDR machine, so I'm gonna be the first oen to spill blood on it. Besides, in a small, 60,000 pop. town, only 4 ppl here have decent DDR experience. I shall go against my only rival now. *evil grin, followed by more practice*

suzu
Jan 30, 2004, 08:43
A YMCA getting DDR? thats cool. I wish they would get one around here. The dream machine, the closest arcade to where I live is like 20mins -half hour away -_-

Spike308
Jan 31, 2004, 11:23
so far, closest for me is hour-hour half drive away...

suzu
Jan 31, 2004, 12:19
wow thats even worse than mine-_- playing in the arcade is way better than playing at home, even if I get nervous when people watch. My mother doesn't see the difference, but she can be ignorant sometimes. But maybe it's because I bug her for car rides but I'm forced until I can drive legally.

www.aaroninjapan.com for anecdotes and true freaks. Yasu+Take = will blow anyone away.

Of course, there are tons of people with various skill levels. Usually googling DDR and your hometown will find something of a community.

Team Gwai Lo for Canada , albeit it is a community since the actul team was dissolved in like 2001 before i heard of them.

suzu
Jan 31, 2004, 12:43
I've been to that site before ^-^ its really cool. I googled and found a DDR team really close to my hometown but all the info was two years old

Spike308

I download tournament videos on WinMX. Since it's global, I get a lot more movies then anything else could consider. So good. Even though I can't even read their names -_-

suzu
Jan 31, 2004, 13:05
I have that, do you have any suggestion of good videos?

Spike308
Jan 31, 2004, 13:07
not in my right now. the movies are all Jp. Titles, so I dunno. ODds are, the bigger the filesize, the longer OR more quality the movie is. I would download them all, but with dialup, that's a joke. ¬_¬

suzu
Jan 31, 2004, 13:13
i know i have dial up and i hate it so much, it cuts me off all the time when I'm d/l directly off the internet -_-

Spike308
Jan 31, 2004, 13:20
yep...I know the pain of dloading a DDR song, getting to 57%, then getting cut off...go back to resume, but nobody has it. WinMX has a bad resume flexibility. But, hey, where else can I get Anime songs... for which I plan to buy the soundtrack to...eventually.

suzu
Jan 31, 2004, 13:27
The prices are all so high for japanese Cd's. I would love to support my favorite singers/bands but I can't afford to. Like they have a DDR sound track and it something like 30$

justin
Jan 31, 2004, 13:32
DDR is a fun game and it can be one hell of a workout! Wish it was easier to find the soundtrack almost bought a copy, but it was almost $40! Anyone know where to find them for a bit less?

suzu
Jan 31, 2004, 13:45
umm The only place I know is yesasia.com but they are really expensive. jpophelp.com might have them too but i'm not sure

Spike308

Spike308
Feb 1, 2004, 04:00
alright, scratch the last post. I actually found a site that sells DDR soundtracks at 16$ a piece. Plus 5$ shipping. I have the link if anyone is interested.

I lost 10 lbs from playing DDR ^_^ Been playing for a year now.. w00t!

I have a sn in the DDR freak forums but I forgot what it is. I'll have to make a new one. I wish I could loose weight playing DDR, I've been playing for a year and a half and I haven't lost anyweight -_- i feel sad. What level do you play at?

caitcid
Feb 1, 2004, 12:39
I play standard..but right now i am going onto heavy songs

6-7 footer...

Matsuri Japan on heavy is very hard!!...the best grade I got was a C!!

But I'll practice the song more...and get better..it takes ALOT of energy outta you though.

suzu
Feb 1, 2004, 12:47

If you really put your heart and soul at DDR, you can do it too. Maybe you need people around you to play those difficult songs in front of you to motivate you to be like them, you will then learn and try and do it.

i suck but atleast i look good doing it
i cant move my feet
but i have all the right body and arm movements

suzu
Feb 3, 2004, 09:41
MShingen- I wish I had people to motivate me but I don't. My friends are all worse than me, the only people that are better than me are the poeple at the mall and well to tell the truth, I have problems with makeing friends. They have their own cliques (there are 2 different ones it seems) They are way better than me and just seem above my level.

MShingen
Feb 3, 2004, 22:00
Suzu-san,
I get to know some of my DDR friends in the arcade where we danced together. After selecting our preferred songs, he choose his own difficulty while I choose mine, then slowly from basic to trick and then to maniac.... now learning doubles...... Is whether do you want to take the first step or not.....

Eternal Wind
Feb 4, 2004, 00:22
i prefer to dance with the 8 pads, more thrilling:)

suzu
Feb 4, 2004, 10:14
MShingen- Thanks for the advice ^-^ I'm starting doubles too, it think its very fun. But I will keep trying to up my level on single too.
Eternal wind- Do you mean 8 arrows?

Spike308
Feb 4, 2004, 11:29
Hopefully so.... *clears throat* Anyhow, wha tyou need is a RCA to 3.5mm audio conversion cable. then, go to training and record it from your line in port on your sound card. You might need prior comp experience for this. and best of all, it's legal as long as no sharing occurs.

suzu
Feb 5, 2004, 04:58
thanks I'll be able to figure it out. I'm not a comp genius or anything but I know more than people around here(i.e where I live)

Yay I'm back! anyhoo..... I was wondering if anyone went to the DDR tourney in Newport they had last week, if you live around the area that is. My friend and I went it was fun but we couldn't stay the whole time. The people were so good, they could beat the crap out the locals at my arcade, and I thought they were good -_-

neptunemoon

Bananas? I just got DDR Max 2. OMG the songs are so awesome. Does the game have a soundtrack I wonder? I always feel like I am in a club.

neptunemoon
Mar 4, 2004, 23:12
Whats cool in the new DDR is that they play some of the actual music videos to songs. Who ever invented this game is a genius I say.

suzu
Mar 5, 2004, 08:12
I have max2 and I actually like max better 0.o max has more songs that I like, max2 has more "american" songs which saddened me. None of my favorites that I was hoping for was on it. But now with the promise of extreme for the ps2 there is hope in the world again.

+Seraphim+
Mar 23, 2004, 08:59
I like all the DDR mixes. There is always a couple songs I like from each. My favorite song....hmmm...that is a toughie. Probally Boom Boom Dollar from the 1st mix (I believe it is from the 1st mix). I especially love it's remix as well. ^_^

suzu
Mar 27, 2004, 05:43
I've never played boom boom dollar. You would think that with 3 different versions that ONE of them would have the song but no. A lot of DDR songs I like arn't on any of the games that I have. The only ones I'm missing are the orignal DDR and the disney mix (but I don't really want the disney mix anyways) and the one for PS2 they haven't released yet. Damn them making me wait until this fall!

+Seraphim+
Mar 28, 2004, 12:27
I first played DDR at a Disney themepark called DisneyQuest. Me and my friend played it for the heck of it and did very bad. We made the bad mistake of picking the Butterfly, the hardest song on that mix. hehe. We just wanted to hear it. We didn't even play the game really. hehe. Ah well...such a good song....

suzu
Mar 28, 2004, 12:52
I like butterfly I think its a cute song, its not that hard is it?

I've been playing DDR for a few years now. If I could find a team I would probably join one, but I live in a small town so there isn't one. I'm a regular heavy players, just have a little bit of trouble with some cata's.

suzu
Apr 12, 2004, 04:01

how much is a metal one? which is better the metal or non metal?

suzu
Apr 23, 2004, 03:11
i'm pretty sure that metal pads are better but they cost like 200$ I think. I got one of the red octane mats, its not metal but padded alot. Its nice but it already ripped and I've only had it for 6 months. Its really hard to play heavy on the flimsy mats I really need to invest in a metal one -_-

I have tried DDR, That's just not my style of dancing lol.. Breakdancing, doing windmills and six-step and flares just dont work on that game for me. :p

hehe, as far i can figure, that's only done in the commercials.. i was at a tourney and all they do is step.. really fast.. but it's still just stepping =P.. then there was this guy "freestyling" which was supposed to make it more dancy, and they were all cheering him on, talking about how great he was.. and to be honest.. it looked SAD!

(i'm talking "ritual of the banging of the plastic swords" star-wars-wedding sad)

then i thought "but they probably CAN make it look good too" so i downloaded a clip of this guy.. tigger... "dancing".. freestyling.. this guy is supposedly some sort of celeb and the best of the best (in america).. he wore a detachable tail which did NOT make him look any cooler.. and to sum up, it STILL wasn't dancing.

i'm not bashing down on anyone playing.. only the freestylers that take themselves too seriously >_<
it's a great game and i tried it once and it was fun.. but the players need to face the facts.. it's NOT dancing, it's a game, and you're PLAYING the game =P

before you think i'm some sort of critic that thinks HE's cool cuz HE can look down on someone doing something geeky.. i'll just put myself out there and say "I play pokemon on my gba and i enjoy it".. so there!

Apr 23, 2004, 23:59
It's been quite a while since I've seriously played, but I found DDR pretty fun. Most of the people I played with were out of my league (a few went to California for competitions), but it was great to learn from them. I may consider starting up again with a group of friends that just started playing. Hopefully it'll be as fun as it used to be.

The popularity of the game had died down in asia, including Japan and now is how the US brings the game back. Heard from friends that Japan is now testing the US market. If the response is good, Japan might think of releasing new sequels of DDR, else it will be stucked at DDR Extreme (DDR 8th Mix)

@okaeri- that sucks, your mat breaking, I feel your pain. 2 of mine have died, sad sad times. I resurrected one of them with LOTS of ducktape, lots.

i think my mat is beyond repair - the printed circuit is broken in numerous places. oh the pain...

suzu, you dont have stepmania?!?!? you haven't lived i tell you!
try www.stepmania.com :-)
the latest release is 3.9 alpha 20, which although is alpha rocks over 3.0 final.
it doesn't come with songs mind you. try DDRStyling.it (http://www.ddrstyling.it/) and DDR:UK (http://www.ddruk.com) (need to register for this one). theyre my favourites.

edit: the downloads section of DDRStyling.it seems to be down atm. oh well.

i guess I haven't -_- that makes me sad. The print circuit was kinda broken on mine but I taped that back together too and it has been a little better. I really am going to have to look into this "step mania" Maybe I'll even get a mat for the computer, if they arn't too expensive and it'll download to my computer.

Well I have a psx-pc adaptator, and now, psx mat cost like $18 (at least for me because I have connections). For both the price is about $36, but you can also buy a metal dance pod since they're 10X more resistants :p
And as for stepmania there's an editor that allows you to use your own songs and create new tracks :D

BTW: has anyone tried the mode with rotating arrows and 8 arrows directions? ^^

suzu
Jun 7, 2004, 07:40
I can buy mats for the ps/ps2 for like 11$ connections rule!
Metal pod? you mean like it goes over your regular mat?

I can play a few songs on Heavy, my favorite songs are the RE-VENGE songs they are pretty hard but i can usually survive to the end, i need to practice Max300 a lot more though. i can do it on light real easy, but i have trouble with standard, mainly because i havent memorized where the arrows are yet, once i get that its just a matter of not killing myself by playing so many hard songs without getting anything to drink :p

The only bad experience ive had in public was this one guy that was watching kept yelling really really really really really loud right next to me (almost in my ear) and i quote "THIS GUY IS CRAZY!!!" and he just kept going on, so i couldent hear some of the beats and i messed up right at a point in the song where i was getting flooded with arrows, think i was playing Healing vision. Besides that, its great out in public, all i need now is someone to practice with, because i have 2 metal dance pads, i just cant get anyone that i know to learn and play the game and i get tired of practicing the harder stuff all alone, know what i mean? :(

@Crono- YOU HAVE 2 METAL MATS?? and you can't find anyone to play with??? I wish I had one metal mat :(

@playing in public, well I like playing at the arcade and I don't mind people watching but sometimes they get obnoxious and I can't consentrate. They laugh at me cause I usually do rythm&police standard first for warm up. They are so evil they act so high and mighty, it pisses me off. Then when I do Holic on Heavy they shut up and leave me alone.

Crono
Jun 8, 2004, 15:43
Yeah i have 2 of them, ive tried to get a few of my friends to learn to play, but they just dont wanna dedicate any time to trying it. :(

I live in Miami, so when i play in public its usually somewhere like Dave&Busters, Gameworks, or some movie theather that botherd to get the game, many people that play usually dont know the first thing about the game so im generally left alone, and when someone who does know how to play does show up, we usually just keep dancing like a couple of madmen, mainly because after seeing us dance no one bothers to try, most likely because they think they will be embarrased or something. There was one night when a few people were around that could dance, it was nice having a small amount of resting time before playing again, that way even when i burnt myself out i had time to recover (some of these things give you 5 songs instead of 3) i generally play better when i have a partner around.

The only time you can play with metal mats are the time when you are in arcade. Else either you own that machine or you buy 2 metal mats. I need 2 mats to play doubles since I need to practice doubles. Both choices are not advisable because it just takes up too much money and space in your home. Playing in the arcade is fun when they turn on the volume loud so that you can listen to the beat carefully and dance to the rhythm.

Suzu-san, have you passed Rhythm and Police Maniac (Heavy) singles yet?

I just found a store selling metal mats for about $50 not far from where I work (It's a discount though)^^

Jun 11, 2004, 06:59
Metal mats for 50$!!!!!!! why can't I live where you are *cries* I can afford 50$. WEll maybe not, but its better than paying 200$.

MShingen- No unfourtantly not, there is one part where I always mess, up, if it wasn't for that one part I would be fine. I can even practice much now because Max isn't working on my PS2. I don't want to practice at the arcade because I prefer not to get harrassed and I don't want to get banned from the arcade for beating someone up, its not worth it.

MShingen
Jun 11, 2004, 22:34
Maybe you should consider looking at the steps and then see whether do you know how to turn or not, how and where should you face when you reach that area. Practice at home a few times by looking the steps. Once you are familiar and ready, try at the arcade as your final stage first.

MShingen
Jun 13, 2004, 15:51
Well there's still people who create their own game with their own songs on stepmania :p

Yeah, creating the steps and then save into the memory card and then plug the card into the arcade machine and dance the song with your own customised steps. Challenging! Used to do that last time but now because of training for doubles play, I stopped for some time.

Stepmania songs are all over the web... but I'm afraid I don't make any.

I have DDR Extreme for PS2, and I'm borrowing two metal pads from a friend of mine. I can pass everything on Heavy except Paranoia Survivor Max and Max Period... 10 footers that I can pass:

Sakura, Bag, Max 300, Maxx Unlimited, Paranoia Survivor, and The Legend of Max!!!

On a side note, does anyone here play Beatmania or Beatmania IIDX? It's made by the creators of DDR and it totally rocks!!!

I remember when my brother and i went to six flags and we went into the arcade and we saw a ddr game there no one was playing it and then when my brother and i got on it (after i cashed in 40$ in quarters each) we put it on the hardest difuculty and on the song that is off of the G4techtv commercial and then we went at it until our feet started to bind then we stoped but after we got off we realized we spent both of our 40$ and we had a crowd watching us in the arcade then when i came back to get on it we cashed in 60$ each but people that were watching us over ran the game for the rest of the day there was a line going all the way to the outside of the building they had to take the coin tray thing out a few times but we finally got back on it and we were laughing about it all day saying "We were playing it before it was cool!" That was my first ddr experience ever and i have been hooked ever since. so i would like to say.... So I am quite surprised that more people are into DDR and Para Para Paradise. I thought when my friends and I were playing, those people who do not know how to enjoy this game and appreciate them will say that we are crazy! For my side, DDR had become almost a weekly affair for us. :D

I work forty hours a week, and I still play daily. Sometimes at the arcade, but more aften at home. I have a modded PS2 with DDR Extreme and Beatmania IIDX w/ controller. A couple of friends of mine have metal dance pads. Another friend of mine has a projector. We usually keep the metal pads at the house with the projector. I bring my PS2, DDR Extreme, Beatmania IIDX and controller over, we get together, and we play DDR Extreme and Beatmania IIDX for an hour or two just about every day. It totally rocks!

I'd say it's about half luck and half "I spent way too much friggin' money!!" But I definitely enjoy it and will probably continue to spend more money... and more money... let's see, so far I nearly $600 invested in importing games alone. That was a pre-modded PS2 console, DDR Extreme, Evangelion 2, Beatmania IIDX, and a Beatmania IIDX controller... Japanese games are expensive!!

is popin music( or whatever its called) made by konami? The parapara game I played at the arcade in canada was made by konami, i think

Kuro Matsuri
Aug 3, 2004, 22:43
Yes, suzu, "Para Para Paradise" and "Pop'n Music" are Bemani games.

I currently play DDR (obviously) and Beatmania IIDX. Those are the only ones that I have been able to save up for. There are no arcades in my area with Bemani games other than DDR. I want to play Pop'n Music, Drummania, Keyboardmania, Para Para Paradise, Guitar Freaks and maybe even Dance Maniax. Soon I will be going to Georgia Tech where I will have access to Drummania, Para Para Paradise, Guitar Freaks, and Beatmania. Unfortunately, I will not have access to Pop'n Music... which I really REALLY want to play...

MShingen
Aug 3, 2004, 23:21
Pop 'N Music is a good but difficult game. Good luck.

Kuro Matsuri
Aug 4, 2004, 01:29
A friend of mine at Georgia Tech is considering building a Pop'n Music controller. It'll be nice if he does. Unlimited Pop'n Music!! Woot!

suzu
Aug 4, 2004, 04:13
he's going to build it himself :?

Kuro Matsuri
Aug 4, 2004, 05:38
Yeah. You can buy the round arcade buttons for around $5-10 a piece (or $25 a piece if you want them to light up) or you could make make-shift buttons out of tennis balls or something. It's kind of like building your own metal DDR pad.

MShingen
Aug 4, 2004, 07:00
Konami had already released its own original pop 'n music home controller. There is no requirement to build from scratch. The original controller is comfortable enough to play...

Kuro Matsuri
Aug 4, 2004, 22:06
True, but it's smaller than the arcade controller. The buttons are much closer together. Also, I'm somewhat of a purist when it comes to Bemani games. On DDR, I always play with no speed mods, and I never touch the bar. On Beatmania IIDX, I never use speed mods, and I do my best to play with one hand on the keys and one hand on the turntable. I wouldn't want to shorten the distance I have to move when playing Pop'n Music.

MShingen
Aug 5, 2004, 06:53
Speed mods are fun, especially if you add Boost to Speed 1.5, it will increase the difficulty of the song and it will be more challlenging because your reaction must be faster than ever, this implies that you must know how to act and the correct timing once you see the arrows.

But if you say that if you want to make something close to the arcade, then for DDR, you have to get the metal dancing stage. Not practical at home, right? Need a lot of space to contain it and the pad is damn heavy and expensive, and the pad must have the safety handle behind for people to grab! If you want to play doubles, then one more is required! As for Para Para Paradise, no way you can build something exactly like arcade unless you buy the arcade machine!!!

Kuro Matsuri
Aug 5, 2004, 21:30
The Para Para Paradise controller would be hard to build! :relief: But, they have a good, relatively inexpensive home controller for that. From what I hear, it's really friggin' close to as good as the arcade. Beatmania IIDX also has an excellent home controller, though it is a bit pricy. The thing is, though, there aren't any truly good home controllers for DDR, and the home controller for Pop'n Music is smaller than it should be. You can build a metal pad for DDR that's nearly exactly the same as the arcade for around $100.(minus the bar. It would cost more for that... and I never use it anyway :p ) Pop'n Music has an incredible arcade controller for PS2, but it's way too expensive. You can build one exactly like for about half the price, and even less if you don't care if the buttons light up when hit.

Crazy speed mods are fun on occasion. I just don't like it when someone plays a song with speed mods all the time, and they are incapable of passing the song without speed mods.

Apparantly, it is an incredible feat to pass Max 300 and MaxX Unlimited without touching the bar. Everyone seemed to be amazed when I pulled it off! :win:

suzu
Aug 6, 2004, 04:23
I'm a partial DDR purist too, no bar raping, no speed mods. I mean really if you can't play the song with out mods you shouldn't be playing the song at all, just practice the little bit more. I only wish I had more money so I could get metal mats -_- *cries* oh well at least I have a mat with raised arrows.

Kuro Matsuri
Aug 6, 2004, 05:33
Yay! A DDR player that agrees with me!!

I also have fun playing songs on flat. It adds that extra little challenge, though on some songs it doesn't effect me at all. In, fact some songs I play better on flat. For some reason, I can A So Deep on Heavy 1x flat, but I can only seem to get a B without flat. Then there are songs like Bag 1x flat, which I have passed with my feet... barely. I had a flaming bar in the middle of the song, and almost died at the end...

MShingen
Aug 6, 2004, 07:14
Try using the Extra Stage mod, Speed x1.5, Reverse! (Dark also if playing Max 2 Extra Stage)

Kuro Matsuri
Aug 6, 2004, 21:34
For some reason, I totally suck at reverse. That really doesn't make any sense. When I play Beatmania IIDX, the notes flow down the screen instead of up the screen. It doesn't bother me at all on Beatmania IIDX, but it kills me in DDR... curses

hey, im new, but i also love DDR. I started out light, but now i can play heavy songs such as max 300 or Tsugaru. i am trying to learn japanese (which is a very hard language). I have a steel mat and a plastic mat. I never use mods because they ruin the song ;-;. Currently i am saving up for a DDR machine (DDR Extreme), and am close to buying it ^_^

I work forty hours a week, and I still play daily. Sometimes at the arcade, but more aften at home. I have a modded PS2 with DDR Extreme and Beatmania IIDX w/ controller. Man, yesterday I was playing DDR 7th mix, and I was playing an Oni mode. I was playing Pop 8, and I usually mess up on the 5th, 7th, and 8th songs. I was on song 4 and a friend of mine pushed me!! I quickly got over it, but he narrowly avoided devastating pain.

you know who sucks? People who stomp on the pad, and people who try to play with their hands, and people who try to be good just to show off, but they cant!!! grrrrrr... they must all have their souls removed! ;x yay i AAA'd Paranoia yesterday :balloon:

Wow, from the previous few posts, it can be deciphered that you guys/gals really can play very well! Things like AA Sakura Maniac, Pass Max 300 with Speed x3, AAA Paranoia! Keep up the good work! Anyway, as i have mentioned earlier, I had stopped playing Singles for quite some time and I am concentrating on playing Doubles. Doubles are much more fun as compared to singles but of courses, more difficult to pass! Any one of you here prefer doubles?

DDRFreak
Aug 14, 2004, 00:46
grrrrrrrrrr... i hate doubles -_-;;; its not as much fun as playing solo or versus. It may be challenging, but it doesnt add much more fun then as if you were playing singles.

MShingen
Aug 14, 2004, 09:10
Oh, doubles would be more interesing because you have 8 panels to play with, compared to singles whereby you only play 4 panels. You have to run about from P1 side to P2 side and vice versa. More exciting! But of course, more difficult and challenging. We have already stop playing singles for a long time. The only 2 occasions that we play singles are either for warm up purposes or versus another player. Else, doubles will always be the choice.

DDRFreak
Aug 14, 2004, 12:05
i played doubles once, its overrated, it actually makes the song easier. even max 300 heavy doubles is like 20 times easier. its not very fun. So the challenge part is scratched out. But some good news is i AAA'd Max Period! Aww, this one time, when i was still a newbie, and was out of shape a bit, i tried max 300 heavy for the first time (with some convincing) i passed with a C, but at the end, my right leg stiffened up and cramped up (because my right leg has spasms when i push it really really hard) and i tumbled over the machine. It was pretty funny. ^_^ but then i started getting into shape and its alot better playing DDR now, just gotta keep in shape once a week. Thats my life story ;x *bows* thank you thank you *bows* I'd love to year your guys' funny DDR stories if ya have any :D

They are supposed to be the ones that Sakura wears in cardcaptors, which were the only ones they had. Oh, does anyone have stepmania, i can send you guys some really awesome songs.

i played doubles once, its overrated, it actually makes the song easier. even max 300 heavy doubles is like 20 times easier. its not very fun. So the challenge part is scratched out.

Ever play Freckles on heavy doubles? It's considerably harder than the single version. So the challenge part is scratched back in.

Anyway, once I was playing an oni mode, and the sole of my foot ripped and got caught on the edge of one of the buttons. I was stuck there for a few moments, and I failed!! Hehe, I abuse my shoes with DDR!

MShingen
Aug 17, 2004, 06:45
Hey, Freckles double is a very fun song. I like it very much. First part is continuous running here and there, followed by those 1/16 steps like "So Deep" and then resume running plus 3 quick steps and resume running...... A very fun song that I like.

Kuro Matsuri
Aug 17, 2004, 22:02
Actually the first part of the song is all gallops... that go all over the place... but it is most definitely a very fun song!

MShingen
Aug 19, 2004, 06:59
Yes, then songs like Sakura, Speed over Beethoven and Cartoon heroes are fun to play as well in doubles in DDR Extreme! Not to forget Tsugaru from DDR Max 2. All these songs have those 1/16 steps (The gallop steps that you mentioned).

DDRfreak- awww, there arn't any anime stores around here -_-

Kuro- ^-^ thats happened to me once with the shoes, but I got myself unstuck before I failed, but it did do lots of dammage to my score and got the goth gang to laugh at me *sniff* they are so mean sometimes.

I need to get new DDR shoes, the other pair of sneakers I have don't stay on when I play DDR *tear*

That's so sad, suru!

On a side note, I passed my first arcade oni course! It was only Naoki Standard, but hey, that's the only one I can pass in the arcade. I play better on a home metal pad... which I no longer have access to...

suzu
Aug 22, 2004, 04:31
why don't you have access to it?

ooooh, but doesn't the college have a game room or something? but I guess it wouldn't be open all the time.

DDRFreak
Aug 26, 2004, 08:20
ooh that sucks. game rooms are like rare in some colleges, but its not like DDR would be there anyway, the student council would be like "uhh your stupid cause you play DDR" thats what most people are like.

suzu
Aug 26, 2004, 09:19
we ( some friends and I) snuck into the college in Boston (i think its northeastern?) to find their game room cause it has DDR, but when we found it, it was closed. and there was a sign on the door that said students only -_- oh well, it was fun sneaking around anyways.

I've had to travel around to get to a machine. there are about 4 machines locally (as in within a half-hour drive) but 3 o fthem are either broken, shipped off, or don't work. The other's ok.
Since I need practice without public performance, I'm trying to convert my computer into a stepmania machine.

Maybe you could approach their staff and report the machine defect and hope the technicians there would repair the machine. After all, if the machine is defective, nobody will play and the revenue will not come in!

I've been playing for about 4 years now. I can pass nearly every song on Heavy, with each Max and PSMO being the only ones giving me trouble. I've triple-A'd only four songs thus far. My greatest accomplishment as far as sheer difficulty goes is passing Paranoia Survivor without the bar, made a B.

That means the Japanese version (NTSC/J) of DDR Extreme was already been released by Konami in Japan.

Sep 22, 2004, 05:52
oh.

Well today my friend was nice enough to go pick up DDR extreme for me so he gets all the way to the mall and it turns out that they get it tommrow. Now I would have been fine with that, if they had told me! They told me I could get it the 21st (which is today!) My reserve slip even says the 21st. -_-

MShingen
Sep 22, 2004, 06:49

Yay! I'm finally back! College has kept me real busy... Well, anyway, the on-campus arcade got a brand new DDR Extreme machine. It is quite nice. I made an edit for Kakumei and put it on the machine! :-) Also, my Beatmania IIDX controller has finally come in. It is awesome! Me and DM Ashura (yeah, the guy who made neoMax, for those who play lots of Stepmania) have been playing it a LOT!

Anyway, that song list does actually look pretty nice. There are some songs on there I would really like to have (.59, Tsugaru (APPLE MIX), and others), but the song list does pale in comparison to the Japnese release. You don't have Twinbee!! :( Though, I do really want to try Maximizer... I wonder if it's as hard as Max. (Period)...

On a side note, I'm going to AWA tomorrow! Maybe they'll have DDR Party Mix for sale there... I know they sell Japanese games, and I plan to stock up!

You may want to consider working at the arcade as well so you could have chance to play DDR Extreme for FREE so as to practice your dance steps. Also, playing at the arcade is much more fun because of the metal dance floor as well as the powerful sound speakers.

I finally got to see the US DDR Extreme... Honestly, it kinda dissapointed me... They took out many of the songs, and I personally despise the new format. What's up with having only, what was it, 70 songs? The Japanese version has over 110!! I have to admit, though, there are some things about it that I do really like. The eye toy is amusing. The mission mode is pretty fun. Also, there are a couple of songs that I wish I had on my Japanese version (one song in particular, that song from Silent Hill 3... I love that song!) All in all, I declare the Japanese version better, but the American version is still pretty darn good.

And that was my entirely random critiqueing of the game! :-)

AWA was a lot of fun. There were many cosplayers there, and I wished so badly that I had been able to cosplay as Lord Ilpalazzo from Excel Saga... I got to play lots'o Bemani games there, too! Guitar Freaks, Drummania, Beatmania IIDX, Pop'n Music, so many wonderful games...

I need to get a DDR pad myself... I haven't had one since I left for college... that was nearly 2 months ago! I also want to get Pop'n Music 10 (which comes out next month), the Pop'n Music controller (not the crappy home version controller, the one from www.desktoparcade.com), and Beatmania IIDX 8th Style (which is also being released next month)... also, there is Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, Gran Turismo 4, so many good games coming out soon... I can't wait for the PSP, either... the Playstation Japan website already has an official page for it... such beautiful screenshots...

Well, good luck on finding a job, suzu! May your video-gaming needs be met! :-)

Kuro- I am too a little dissapointed with the songlist. There are maybe 5 or 6 songs I'm really happy to see, but the majority I find I don't like that much. I figured I would warm up to some of them but no luck. I'm dissapointed at the number of cover songs and "popular" music.

ddr extreme is much better for the arcade then for ps2. they really did screw it up this time. I PLAYED THE LAST DDR SONG THEY EVER MADE. THE 600 BPM!!!! i beat it with a B but holy crap. you can like not see the notes. Max Period i believe its called

holy crap its fast, like you never believe

Because of some copyright issues that Konami is not able to put in all the song that were used in the arcade. I missed the song Senorita, which was only available in the arcade but not the home version. The arcade version also has songs from the previous versions of DDR but the homw version only contained some of it. Sad case.

Kuro Matsuri
Oct 7, 2004, 22:39
DDR Freak - Yes, the song is called Max. (Period) and it is not on the arcade machine, only on the Japanese Home Version... did you pass it with your feet or on StepMania? By the way, I can actually read the 600 bpm arrows fairly well, but I can't keep up with them accurately with my feet... Also, the 600 bpm section only has 1/4 notes, so it is the same speed as the 1/8 notes that are going 300 bpm... just considerably more difficult to read...

MShingen - La Senorita is on the Japanese Home Version!! Along with La Senorita Virtual!! :-) If only I could get ahold of a pad to play them on... :(

MShingen
Oct 8, 2004, 23:03
Kuro Matsuri, La Senorita is from DDR 3rd Mix while the virtual version is on 4th Mix. Did US release these 2 mixes? If yes, do they contain these two songs?

Senorita (by smile.dk) is only available on 8th Mix Arcade Version.

Kuro Matsuri
Oct 12, 2004, 02:03
I don't think so... but I think those songs might be on Ultramix for the Xbox... except Seniorita... which I didn't realize was different from La Senorita. Now I want to know what Senorita is like...

Suzu - nope, cant find a digital camera, if you want to know, i dropped the first one in the toilet -_-;;; my mistake ;P

Kuro Matsuri - Both. Once i passed it on stepmania, i wanted to try it on my pad, but realizing the fact that you cant download songs from a cd to the ps2, i went to the xbox, downloading the songs onto the xbox hardrive, and then using those songs on DDR Max 2. I had to make the steps myself though, and that was annoying,
