Does anyone know if the story known as Journey West/Journey of the Monkey King/Saiyuki has been published in anything resembling an original form in English, and if so where I can find it? I'm looking for an actual book, not for the anime Saiyuki or for Dragonball, or really any commercialized version.

You can read a shortened version of the story there. (It's like a 100 page online comic)
I dont think it's ever been translated into English, the original book in Chinese is 3 books long.
Ok turns out i was wrong, went into a book store today and found this :

It's probably the closest thing to a translated version you are gonna get.

I read the book from that link, and it is really good. But from what I have heard the whole story is really long like 100 chapters or something so the book is like a quick summary, but is still cool.
There is a full, English translated version out there. I have the three-book set. The ISBN is 7-119-01663-6.
Hope it helps.

This would appear to be one of the more complete versions of the story, 2346 pages!
