Whats your favorite type of sushi? What about your least favorite? Do you like sushi, nigiri, or sashimi?
Me personally I love salmon and tuna sashimi...I am not a fan of the sushi rolls...at least the ones made in the US...I would rather eat just the fish and have my rice and seaweed seperate. :p
What about everyone else?

My hubby eats it in one bite generally!!
Temakizushi is kind of self service sushi at home. Normally cut up pieces of nori, a bowl of rice and a plate of various fillings - egg roll thinly sliced, cucumber, ikura and raw fish etc. We then pick up a piece of square nori, add rice and fillings of our choice! Fun! *drool*

I'm sure you could find the necessary ingredients in the US. I could easily make it in NZ, and we're a tiny country with not many Asian stores. Of course, finding raw fish was a bit difficult. In some of the big cities it was possible, but in my small town I used smoked salmon or even *gasp* tuna, and sometimes just vegetarian. All smothered in mayonaise of course -yum!!! Basically all you need is nori sheets and sushi vinegar and them improvise the rest!! gambatte ne-! ;)

Thanks! I will have to give it a try...A Japanese foreign exchange student that stayed w/ me last year is coming down next month, so maybe I can have her show me the best way to fix it!

With you all the way dude! Big sashimi fan, the 'hand sushi' is the way to prepare it.. The pic above is allredy assembled like you'd find in a resaurant in UK. However it's much more fun eaten with your friends in a very similar fashion to fajitas I might note!
I am very fortunate to have a chef friend from Bristol's sushimi restaurant. We get some very special treatment when all this fresh fish doesn't get sold, she comes round and we have some amazing sushi and sushimi meals. Also bring some flavours in from other parts of the world for new hand sushi combinations. We love it! Fresh raw tuna is amazing I eat it two or three times a week all laid on...
:D  :D
i know target has some sheets (by ming tsai?) cause i bought some on clearance
and i like free type. very enjoyable

I love sushi! I like to try different types of sushi when I can, but the only kinds I don't eat are salmon and another kind, but I can't remember it. I think it had raw fish eggs or something.
Shrimp, eel, and Tai are my favs!
Friday after class I'm going to have sushi with my friends! A round of sushi for everyone!
I just wish sushi came in larger servings! There never seems to be enough to fill me up! :okashii:

I'm addicted to sushi! My favorites are shrimp, salmon, squid, and sometimes salmon eggs, but I like them all. The salmon here in Seattle is just as good as in Japan, but the squid sucks.

I always order Yam Tempura, Yaki Soba, Teriyaki meats and Chicken Karaage.
I don't eat any seafood though. Doesn't make me feel good when I eat it. =P
But I like a lot of vegetarian sushi!

Ewww.. no way!
There's a local restaurant we go to and the Karaage is so good. Not greasy at all! They do somnething to the batter cause it is so tasty and theyv\coat it very lightly. I guess it depends how it is made. :souka:

yes, you are right, gimme any of these and the others, any size, any colours & shape I'll eat them all. I just love with passion. I'll even take risks and eat fugu which is supposed to be safe seeing the harsh obligations that goes along with it.
Now as far as fugu is concerned, here is a quote from unknown source :
Fugu? What's a fugu, you may be asking. Fugu is the Japanese term for the poisionous blowfish, a peculiar fish native to the Pacific Ocean. Considered a delicacy in Japan and the Philippines, the blowfish (scientific name Diodon holacanthus), an unattractive fish that boasts the ability to inflate its body and project protective spikes, contains signifigant amounts of tetrodotoxin, a powerful toxin that will shut down your CNS faster than an all-day Charmed marathon. The lethal dose of tetradotoxin for a full-grown man would fit on a pinhead. Tetrodotoxin is 1200 times deadlier than cyanide, and one blowfish contains enough poison to kill 30 people. It is said the blowfish inspired Deuteronomy 14:9-10 which states "These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat: And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you"
But that might well be over soon :
as per an article edited in a french newspaper (Libération of 14th May 2004)
The professor Tamao Noguchi of the Nagasaki University has found a way to "produce" or rather breed and bring up a new race of identical fugu that will not produce the mortal tetrodotoxine. For 3 years the Prof. and his team have "raised" 4'800 fugus in special cages situated 10 meters ABOVE THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA.
The idea was to check/demonstrate/prove that the fugu does NOT naturally produce himself the poison, but rather "manufacture" the substance with the intoxicated and polluted crabs, seashells and other species that he eats and then transform in poison.
So Prof. Noguchi fed the fugus with non contaminated fishes and seafood.
The results : absolutely no one of the fugus had "produced" the lethal poison.
vive la vie & les sushis !!!

Tako has no taste. Sake is the best, and then Maguro.
I love temakizushi ;)One of the reasons why people outside Japan like temakizushi over other styles are, that vast majority of the thousands of self-claimed non-Japanese "sushi chefs" have had no decade-long formal training, having never traveled to Japan to experience real stuff either.
Those "chefs" are the ones serving cubed raw tuna as "sashimi" and their rolls always covered with excess sesame seeds, not to mention that their nigiri with way too much amount of rice pressed too tight in their hands.
On the other hand they are unable to make ingredients taste worse in temaki, just fish and vinegared rice rolled lightly in nori, that is why it tastes good.

You guys are making me so hungry! :bluush:
I haven't had sashimi for a while for a while since what I order most of the time at japanese restaurants here are sushi varieties. I love sushi. I love them so much that one day, I ate too much and had stomach cramps the whole day. :( I can still remember the pain. I reminded myself not to eat too much though I love the food.
