kirei: Uhuhuhuhuh....yeah....uhuhu..spread.....

Er, anyway. Spread Beaver was a band that hide fronted at one point, and Zilch was his American band.

Spread Beaver had more variety. Although I love the 3.2.1 album with Zilch, Psyence and Ja, Zoo are godly in comparison. More variety.

suzu: it depends how you are putting it. In Japanese, pop music = popular music. So theoretically, anything popular and Japanese can be considered J-pop and be correct. :p

zombie panda: I guess I should have been more clear, sorry. I meant pop as in pop music not popular music. A misunderstanding.
P.s I love that picture of hide and zilch, he's wearing the fuct shirt. yay, he's so cute, i want a shirt like that (sorry for the off topic-ness)^-^

Spread Beaver, definitely. I just like the music better. The music in Zilch was often really....sexual. But hide-sama's engrish was really good in Zilch. But I like Spread Beaver better. ^_^:bluush: *huggles spirit of hide-sama* hide was so awesome....and extremely sexy. ^_^

You know, the sexuality in Zilch is why I prefer the work on that project.

And while Electric Cucomber may be a boss @ss song, Misery is still my favorite of all time. Its a bit of a paradox. I like Zilch better, but a song with Spread Beaver is my favorite. Kosher, still.

SB had sexual songs too. Like~

"come and go let me show my rocket, come and go baby blow my rocket"

"You're beauty queen of love
I'm stupid slave of love
I kiss on your Knees
Let me do what you want
kimi no omocha ni sasete

Beauty & Stupid A-ha-ha
(Baby love you, Love you like an animal)"

hide as a whole was very sexual. :p

Not just the lyrical content, but the music itself of Zilch was much more basic, and primal.

The basslines were much heavier, and the bass itself is a huge turn on for me when I hear it. Plus the beats were just smashing, and hard beats *pardon the pun* turn me on.

Zilch's music as a whole, was sexier than Spread Beaver's.

Spread Beaver was hide's band. Like Gackt with GacktJOB. And Sugizo with The Spank Your Juice. Get it?

I prefer Spread Beaver. Zilch is a bunch of assholes who capitalize off of hide, years after his death. Plus I didn't like his work with Zilch too much.

I prefer Spread Beaver, they had longer to develop and worked better as a band.

I've only been baptized into J-pop & J-rock recently. So I don't know these two band. But anyone that names themselves "Spread Beaver" should win any battle of the bands in my opinion.

I don't know of any hide fansites, sorry...

SB was started in um... 95 or 96, I believe, I'm really not sure on that. I have no idea on Zilch; but I believe it may have been 96-97. hide commited suicide by pretty much hanging himself. Other people will come along and say it was an accident, but come on. You can't accidentally hang yourself with a towel from the doorknob. It'd have to be really hard. But, that's just my opinion, so no need to get upset.

I still stick by the idea that he was drunk when he accidently hung himself.

There were obscure reports that he had an odd workout *due to his high cholesterol* and somehow he hung himself from trying it.

Realistically, I know this is not likely, but as a fan, who wishes to believe he didnt want to leave us, I believe it.

Illaparatzo-sama
Mar 14, 2004, 13:14
Oh, I think it was probably drunkenly decided. You know how some people get when they're drunk... want to die, be depressed, etc. I think it was something like that, but I can't really know.

Wo! I just found out that this Zilch band existed, so can someone inform me about this. Did Hide had two bands at the same time? So he sang in english in Zilch any reason? I downloaded a couple of songs and I would have to say that I like more Spread Beaver.

Many of the bandmembers in Zilch were British or American: Ray McVeigh (ex-Professionals), Paul Raven & Jaz Coleman (both ex-Killing Joke), Joey Castillo (ex-Danzig), Steve Jones (ex-Sex Pistols) etc.

I think their debut-album was to have a US-release, but after hide died it only got released in Japan (although it also did get an Asian release later).

A few of the Zilch songs are English language reworks from X-Japan songs and his solo-work:

Inside the Pervert Mound ---> Mr. Leather face (hide with Spread Beaver on Ja,zoo)
What's up, Mr. Jones ---> Drain (X-Japan on Dahlia)
Doubt
Pose

Their debut album got a good remix-workover, which was released under the title BastardEYES. It features remixes by Charlie Clouser (Nine Inch Nails), Praga Kahn, Pitchshifter, Danny Saber (Black Grape), J (from Luna Sea), Shaun Ryder (Happy Mondays, Black Grape), Schaft.

Spread Beaver's I.N.A was also a member of Zilch. He was programmer for hide on all his solo-albums as well as the final X-Japan album Dahlia. On Bastard Eyes he also remixed a track together with Kaz and D.I.E. from Spread Beaver.

Zilch also released a second album, titled Skyjin, which wasn't very good. It featured great names though. Hide was dead, but they used a piece of guitarwork from him on one track. Paul Raven had left the band, but Ray McVeigh and Joey Castillo were still there. Luna Sea bassist J, took over Raven's spot and I.N.A. was still present as programmer. Guest artists included Ian Astbury (The Cult), Duff McKagan (Guns n' Roses) and even Ol' Dirty Bastard.
