JaME recently had the opportunity to have a brief interview with Yoshiki, on the evening of the final night of JRock Revolution.

JaME met with Yoshiki, the mastermind of the JRock Revolution event, in his dressing room at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, California. The star was gracious enough to grant us an interview on day two of JRock Revolution, the evening after the confirmation of Miyavi as the 4th member of the super band SKIN.


We know you're extremely busy this evening, thank you for granting us a few moments of your time. Let's start with a few questions about tonight's event. How long have you been thinking about an event like JRock Revolution?
Yoshiki: About a year I guess. Maybe more like a year and a half.

What are your hopes and expectations for the event?
Yoshiki: First, I wanted to show all the band members their fan base outside of Japan. Many of the bands hear of their popularity here, but it seems to them to be more of a rumor. I wanted them to see the fans first hand. And also, I wanted to bring JRock to the US.

Where did you first get the idea?
Yoshiki: I saw Dir en grey live. They played here in this theatre. There were tons of fans at the show and the fan reaction was great, so I started thinking about it then. Also, I saw all the messages on my MySpace page, asking for Japanese bands.

You seem to be very in touch with your fan base. Do you think that's because of your MySpace page?
Yoshiki: Yes. When I was doing X-Japan, hide was the one. His role was to communicate with the fans, I was just the crazy leader, just doing whatever I wanted. Not to say that I didn't care about the fans, but hide was the one who played that role. But, we don't have hide anymore, so I think I should be the one to assume that role.

How were the bands that are participating selected?
Yoshiki: That was really hard. There were a lot of bands that wanted to come. It was really hard to make the schedule work, to make sure all the bands were available at the same time. Also, the JRock Revolution MySpace page ran some polls and did some research to see who the fans wanted the most, so we used that research as a reference. We wanted to make sure and bring a wide variety of bands, not just one genre.

Were there any bands that you really would have liked to have seen perform that were unable to make it?
Yoshiki: Yes, but this is just the beginning. There wasn't a lot of time when we planned the show. It was initially supposed to be 3 days with more bands, but there were many problems like visas, passports, and schedules. We decided to just keep it simpler this time so we could properly prepare. So next time we will have more time to prepare, and we'll bring the bands that weren't able to make it this time.

Would you take an event like this on tour?
Yoshiki: I'd love to, if it can be arranged. Logistically, it would have to be fewer bands. Having a tour with 9 or 10 bands would be too difficult to organize, and too costly. We'd need to tour with fewer bands to make it more efficient.

Why did you decide not to perform at the event? Many fans were hoping to see you take the stage and drum with a few of the bands.
Yoshiki: I don't know ....I wanted to make sure everything was organized first. If I performed there would probably be some kind of disaster (laughs).

Will you answer a few questions for us about your new band SKIN? Many fans are wondering about it..
Yoshiki: Sure, of course!

Do you have someone in mind to play bass?
Yoshiki: Actually ....we haven't decided (laughs).

Will there be an album, or just a series of live appearances?
Yoshiki: We're planning on releasing an album. We've already recorded rough versions of seven or eight songs. Everyone came here to Los Angeles in March for a few weeks so we could work on it.

What kind of a time frame do you have in mind for the band? Is this a short term project, or something we can expect more longevity from?
Yoshiki: Well, it's a band. You never know how long it will last (laughs). But, before we were a band we were all friends so I think it will last.

So that we don't take up any more of your time this evening, let's end with a final message for your fans.
Yoshiki: I have to say that without you guys I am pretty much nothing. I believe I exist because of my fans' support.

I've noticed him and Gackt both wear sunglasses a hell of a lot recently... not entirely sure why. It might be because they don't want to wear contacts any more... and the glasses could actually be perscription. Although you would have thought they'd just get lazer surgary.

Gackt would probably claim its something to do with his eyes not being good with bright lights... I'm sure he mentioned that before!

Okay not to be offensive or anything. I read somewhere Gackt and Yoshiki got into a bit of a fight before Anime Expo. Apparently Yoshiki was late and Gackt yelled at him for it, then they got into somewhat a physical fight. Gackt has always been one for punctuality.
Also on the Guild I am in, someone made a very keen observation that at the S.K.I.N. photo shoot (there use to be videos on youtube, taken down because of copyrights) that although Sugizo was there he wasn't in any of the photos. Also if you watch or see pics of them, Miyavi has his body turned away from them.
Has anyone else heard of this or noticed these happenings?
Sorry if I have offended anyone, etc.
The fight was reported in a newspaper on my understandings.

Hmm...I heard that Gackt and Yoshiki clashed when they first met but I heard they were 'good friends' now or something like that.
I did notice the Sugizo thing, though... Maybe he just wasn't around when the photoshoots were taking place because on his blog he said he wandered around at AX a bit (he mentioned watching Anna Tsuchiya perform, too). Maybe the shoot was a spontaneous decision and Sugizo wasn't around when it happened?

But you know, they're all big stars in their own right...if you put several strong chemicals together, they're going to react. Explosively more often than not.

Maybe Miyavi was turned away from them so the camera would get him from the best angle? lmao.

Originally I took most the things he said to be sarcastic... but after reading those rumors I'm not too sure. He says that he's had disagreements with Sugizo in the past... that he was close to Yoshiki... and that Miyavi was just mental... and that it was impossible working with them...

Ahh... damn... the SKIN forum is down because of hacking... that's annoying... I'll post it once the forum comes back... presuming it's still there and they don't completely reformat it!

Yeah I heard Gackt and Sugizo had this all out shout fight at some gathering and they both left in heated moods. I heard it has something to do with being competitive and just in different bands, etc.
Also Gackt and Yoshiki aren't the only ones who wear sunglasses a lot. I remember watching a video where X is trying to complete a song and hide and Toshi were also wearing sunglasses in this already dim lighted studio!! It's kinda funny cause it's like "Boys where is the sunlight coming in?"
Also Yoshiki is just such a perfectionist he is constantly playing this one part over again and there like "Yeah yeah. It's good" and he's like "No, No, it can be better" remix/fix for the 1000th time. XD The song escapes my mind though :p...
Also DIRU wear sunglasses these days a lot too or maybe it is just me.

Hahaha. Anyways, thanks to him I started to play drums years ago, but when I found out how much he sucked at drums, I moved to another artist, as Akira Jimbo is. Thanks to his band I started to like japanese music (eventhough I was a little rascal at that time)

Interviewer - I see. Actually, the day after tomorrow (April 24th), I'm going to Los Angeles to meet Yoshiki

Gackt - "Oh, you are? Right. Say hi to him for me."

- Of course. Well, I'd like to ask you about S.K.I.N, this super group we've been hearing rumors about. Basically, what state is it in at the moment?

"...When does this magazine go out?"

- It should be July.

"It's definitely happening. I seriously feel like just getting out there and shocking the entire world with this thing."

- Does that mean there'll be some kind of official announcement by the time this issue goes on sale?

"We'll have played live by then."

- Huh!? Live..?

"In America, June 29th. It's at an event, but we'll only be doing three or four songs. A kind of debut feel."

- So, does that mean there are already some S.K.I.N. songs ready?

"Uh-huh (laughs)."

- What kind of songs are they?

"I’ve been thinking that I want to put the things that are really on my mind right now into the band a little. A taste of all the things I'm chasing after... that kind of feel. I'm thinking about getting some so-called 'Japanism' in there. That would make the band easier for people to grasp. Only, I haven’t actually said that to the others in those kind of songwriting terms. But from what they've been saying, we seem to be on the same page. It's just Miyavi who doesn't really seem to be getting it (laughs). He's been trying to get these weird, simplified Kabuki pattern things in there, so I'm all 'Uh, that's not really what I meant...' (laughs). It would be good if we could actually get that kind of nuance in there and make it work, though."

- I see. Are the four of you hitting it off?

"We don't get on too badly. In fact, I think we get on very well. Yoshiki and myself are very close friends, and Sugizo and me too... I think? (laughs) Well, I think we are, anyway. (SUGIZO and I) have had some issues in the past, but now I’m very glad that I had a chance to meet him like this. It's interesting... they're all such weirdos (laughs). It's like, 'be more normal, dammit!' (laughs)

- (Thunderous laughter)

"No, I'm telling you. They're so weird (laughs). They're so strange I get tired just being around them! (laughs) Yoshiki and Sugizo are both freaks, and Miyavi is actually insane. When we're working in the studio, I just can't take it any more and I leave. I say ‘That's it, I’m going home!’ (laughs)."

- It looks like you're painting yourself as the respectable one (laughs).

"My thoughts exactly. They're messed up, those three (laughs)! I mean, their conversations just don't make any sense at all! (laughs). Out of the four of us, I'm a type A, Miyavi is a AB, Yoshiki is a B, and Sugizo is O; even our blood types are totally different. Our communications and timings are completely off, too. I always thought I was messed up a bit, but when I'm with those three I can honestly feel like I'm the most sensible one there (laughs)."

- (Thunderous laughter)

"Seriously, they're all total clowns. I mean, I'm always having to butt in, correcting them. 'No, not like that! That's not right either!' (Laughs) Just... get serious, will you!? Well, that's what I’m thinking, but there's not much point telling them now... (laughs)."

- So, about these songs you're going to debut on the 29th of June. Did everyone help write them?

"Everyone contributed something, so they're a joint effort. All of us are fine with songwriting, and singing was no problem since everyone except for Yoshiki can sing."

- Can I come and watch the show in America?

"Why not?"

- So I guess this means that S.K.I.N. is finally going active, doesn't it?

"That's right. I really want to just do it and see what kind of reaction we get. Then, if things don't work out, I guess I'll quit (laughs)."

- (Thunderous laughter) Gackt, you're the greatest (laughs).

"No, I just mean I don't do things by halves. If you're going to do something, you should give it your all."

- All or nothing?

"Yeah, that's it. It’s a case of ‘If it only gets a lukewarm response, let's call it a day.' All four of us have a lot of things going on, and we’re busy, after all. 'If it means something, let's go for it.' If there's no point to it, then just give it up. That’s what I think."

- That's a good mindset, I think.

"There's no point doing it half-heartedly, and I'm definitely not thinking 'hey, I'm free at the moment, so I might as well give it a go.' Yoshiki's the same, and besides, we’ve all been saying we want to actually take over the world with this band."

- I see.

"I think we'll be the first Japanese artists to go worldwide, and make it to number one. The others think that’s within reach, too. If we can get across a kind of Japanese-style music that doesn't sound forced or crowbared in, I think that'll be great. Because there's absolutely no point if we're just imitating British, American or European bands."

- Well, I'm looking forward to it. We're all hoping you succeed.

"It would be good, wouldn't it? Though I think we will. Because if we can't do it, probably no one can. Well, in any case, it'll be fine if we can just convey something interesting. ...The songs are good."

- Ah, now that's what I wanted to hear.

"Yeah, the songs are really good. Now, it's just a question of taste and arrangement, and trying to imbue the whole thing with that Japanism feel. That's the key point for me. Even if all the members have their own different image and interpretation of our music, that might actually end up working out - the whole thing might work really well if we can bring it all together. Of all the members, I think that's what I'm best at (Japanism), because I've tried it in a lot of my own songs. Between us, there's no shortage of visual appeal, and because we can each express our own styled aesthetic madness, I'd like to get that kind of Japanese-flavored harmonized madness and chaotic taste in there."

Erm I would think the only version is on his myspace. He seems pretty guarded about the songs on there. The only versions of any of the others I've been able to find are rips from that site so I think it would be the same with that one... some clever person with audacity (the program not the characteristic) may have ripped it... if they have I've not found it. I'll keep an eye out for it though.

I know what you mean. I know his father died when he was young, thats the story behind Tears, he wrote that for his father.
I don't think they were particularly rich, I know Yoshiki's mother had to sell her kimono making business to afford to get X a record lable.
Then of course there was the whole hide thing, but most of Yoshiki's lyrics were written before then, it's only the Violet UK stuff that can be traced back to that.
For example in the song Sex and Religion, the lyric "It's still ******* my mind" - I kinda read as to do with hide. Of course I can't be sure, but he also uses that as the tag on his myspace page.

Yoshiki scares crowd during X live - Credit to jaME

During the first reunion concert of X JAPAN at the Tokyo Dome, Yoshiki fell unconscious while playing the drums during the performance of Art of Life. He was carried away by the staff and the concert was stopped two hours into the show.

Luckily, Yoshiki was able to attend the press conference where he announced that he was perfectly fine.

During tonight's performance, guitarist SUGIZO played with the band alongside a hologram of hide playing as well.

Yurga - No I don't think it is just a rumour. X are postponing all their tour dates... they haven't canceled them. There is no news out about when they are moving them to.

So, YOSHIKI is ill again and X JAPAN has put their world tour on the back burner.

The following is a translated excerpt from a Japanese news site (I’m not doing the whole article, because it just repeats stuff about YOSHIKI and it’s not really relevant to the news at hand).

On the 8th it was found out that the popular rock band, X JAPAN, had postponed their world tour that was covering places such as Paris, Taipei and New York for an indefinite amount of time.

The band’s leader, YOSHIKI suffers from a chronic disc herniation which has flamed up again, and therefore he is under doctor’s orders to rest. Having this serious illness he is not able to put such a burden on his body, and their future activites are still undecided.

Since everyone and their mother seems to be releasing jewelry they’ve designed as of late, YOSHIKI is no exception and he too has come out with two new pieces of jewelry designed by him.

They’re calling it “premium jewelry” and it will only be sold at Shop.TOL. The two pieces of jewelry have a design which encompasses the image of both stillness and motion of “Silent Round” and “Passion Cross”.

They’ll be taking reservations for the jewelry from June 9th until July 18th and the pieces are sent out on August 8th.

For both, it costs 20,000 yen (roughly $190 CDN / USD).

Now this piece of news definitely surprised me, and thanks to Kat who gave us the heads up! After Kat sent me the Yahoo! News link, I did some more searching around. I think this is most of the information that’s out there about it.

X JAPAN’s vocalist TOSHI is forming a brand new band called “TOSHI with T-EARTH”.
So far there are three members confirmed for the band; TOSHI on vocals, Jun (ex-Phantasmagoria) on guitar and TOYA from しゃるろっと (Charlotte). There will also be a bassist, keyboardist and drummer added to the ranks, but no announcement of who will be filling those parts quite yet. Their producer is currently MASAYA.
Starting on August 12th, the band will be going on a country-wide tour, kicking it off at Nagoya ZEPP.
The tour dates are:
August 12th - Nagoya ZEPP
August 14th - Sapporo ZEPP
August 18th - Osaka ZEPP
August 19th - Osaka ZEPP
August 21st - Fukuoka ZEPP
September 3rd - Tokyo ZEPP
September 4th - Tokyo ZEPP

The band has also already had offers to travel overseas to perform, so keep a look out you might get a chance to see them too!

TOSHI is calling their music “ecology hard rock” and says “If we have the chance, we want to play eco hard rock, we want to shout”. The concept of the band is “We won’t lose to young people. When we can shout, we’ll shout. When we can do it, we’ll do it”.

On a somewhat unrelated and random note, TOSHI also mentioned that he’s taking applications for a female duet partner for another project that he’s starting up.

The latest is that the show in Paris is rescheduled for 22nd November (I think... don't quote me on that one) ... I don't know about the others.

REPO! - I am so looking forward to that movie... I've ordered the soundtrack and am waiting for it... it's taking AGES to get here! We don't get a movie release in cinemas over here so I have to wait for the DVD :( The music is fantastic... I can so hear Yoshiki's influence there... some of it is VERY Violet UK.

I'm so happy X canceled France... I know that sounds bad but I was having dilemmas over it... it saves me a lot of time and money now that I don't need to go.

I really want to go and see them in Sweeden... I want to go to Sweeden any way so that will give me a good excuse... and then I can have a holiday! I hope they get the tickets on sale so I can get a good deal on a flight.

AZOFF MANAGEMENT will take care of X JAPAN WORLD TOUR.

They decided to postpone every tour date of this year. The first concert of X JAPAN WORLD TOUR will be the countdown live.

In the next spring, there will be a nationwide tour in Japan followed by a world tour with a concert in Paris and Sweden, and probably some more.

HEATH's Management confirms Paris Live to happen in 2009
In a blog posted on the agency's official site, HEATH's management today apologized to fans for the postponement of both the Paris and Christmas lives in Japan, saying that they are just as disppointed as the fans, but also adding that the Paris live indeed appears to be planned for 2009, possibly early in the year.

They finish the post with a promise to do their best to perform as soon as possible before fans both worldwide and in Japan.

hehe i told her that Yoshiki had been violently & brilliantly hitting things with sticks for a job for longer than 20 years. she was naturally, like, OMG :-) to be honest the first time I saw Yoshiki was a video of the LA SKIN concert... I kind of figured him to be closer to Miyavi's age. :blush:

February 11, 2009

YOSHIKI had a press conference announcing his breaking into the racing circuit. YOSHIKI announced that he will be producing a racing team of two drivers for the DOME company for the Super GT Series. The team will be called “Team YOSHIKI DOME Project”.

The press conference started with the introduction of the two directors of the DOME company who made a brief statement outlining that this was the perfect match of a car lover and a racer lover and that they expect to win the team title. Then the two drivers who will be driving the racing car for YOSHIKI came out. One of them mentioned that today was the first time that they had met YOSHIKI.

Finally YOSHIKI comes out and the fan section in the back (from YOSHIKI mobile)screamed out his name. The PR company’s MC asked YOSHIKI how he was feeling. YOSHIKI stated that he wasn’t feeling so good. After finishing X Japan’s Hong Kong performance he wanted to go back to LA, but his condition prevented him from doing so. He said that he will go back this week. Asked what he thought about the DOME name, he said that it was “kakkoii” or cool because of the numerous meanings that the word conveys especially in the case of X Japan because of events at Tokyo Dome. During the press conference he drank ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK. Enjoy a sequence of him drinking the drink.

The next questions was about what kind of cars YOSHIKI has. He said, “I drive very fast cars. I also have hybrid/eco cars, but they are also very fast.” He later continued that he had a special fast version of the new Honda hybrid which is not out yet that was made just for him. He emphasized how fast the car was but would not mention any other companies besides Honda due to the venue and sponsor being Honda.

In 1995 YOSHIKI also sponsored a Formula Nippon racer and that year he won. He was asked if he was anticipating another win. “I’m not pressuring you guys to win,” as he turned to the two drivers sitting next to him, “but you better win.” He also stated he likes the neck to neck anticipation of races. Asked if he had any dreams for this team, he stated, “for this team, I want them to win obviously.”

The press conference then turned to questions from the press core. “After Countdown Blitz and the Honk Kong success, you will be playing in Seoul in March. What about concerts for the Japanese fans?” Yoshiki talked about how they wanted to get Osaka Dome and Kyocera Dome but both of those initiatives failed. According to an anonymous source in the band, these failed because those stadium’s will no longer allow rock music in those stadiums because of the surrounding residential areas. This first became an issue with the band Glay many years back. X Japan has been trying to get these stadiums to change their policies. For big news announced at the concert, YOSHIKI stated that the two days for Tokyo Dome has been decided. They will be held at May 2, and May 3. He then reiterated that they haven’t given up on playing in Osaka even though venues like Kyocera Dome said don’t play the song “X” (before the demand was don’t have the audience to the “X Jump” but that could not be enforced). They might do an attempt at Universal Studios. He also said they will be coming to France, tentatively planned for July but looks like there are no more hurdles to overcome for a French performance. Beijing’s concert will take place in the fall, most likely October if everything goes as planned.

YOSHIKI will not be able to make it to the first race because it will conflict with their Korean performance but he will come to the April 11th race. He then made a slip and said that he will drive. He said “hashiru” which in Japanese has dual meanings, run and drive. The event host tried to play it off that he would be running on his feet, but the gaff had already been made.

The press conference then moved to fan questions. The first fan asked when there will be the announcement for the sixth member? YOSHIKI responded, “when we’re ready to make it, we’ll make it.” Another fan requested an auction system to get tickets because it’s almost impossible to get tickets. YOSHIKI said that there won’t be one for the Tokyo DOME concert/ Also there are copyright problems with that and he added that he needs the money. The last question was about how much added money he gets after drinking ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK. He said it makes him drum much faster and that it really hits. Ignoring the fact that that was a planted question, the press conference overall had little to offer in new information but it presented a new avenue for YOSHIKI.

Finally YOSHIKI and the two drivers proceeded to the car for the official unveiling. Scroll down to view photos of the car.

The music of "X JAPAN" has surpassed national borders, race, and time

At a time when the term "visual-kei" didn't even exist, X appeared suddenly on the scene, upholding the catchphrase, "PSYCHEDELIC VIOLENCE CRIME OF VISUAL SHOCK". Along with their flashy makeup and costumes, their unique HR/HM sound surprised people throughout Japan, and later brought great reforms to Japan's music industry. Their groundbreaking existence has made them the original Jrock Band. YOSHIKI, who is already known worldwide as a musician, is in fact X JAPAN's leader and drummer.

Yurga - I agree... I can't stop listening to the soundtrack... I wish the movie had been a little longer. Apparently they are making an extended version of the soundtrack.. lets hope they do a directors cut of the movie... I've seen a couple of the deleted scenes and wish they had been left in.

Latest news on X - they have teamed up with the makers of Hello Kitty to make a VK range... yes I know that sounds like a joke but it's serious! I'm torn between thinking it's quite cool and wanting to yell "No Yoshiki NO!"

Talking of ridiculously over priced Yoshiki things my friend found some pages of his score signed on ebay and I can't remember how much they were going for but it was the kind of price you'd expect to own Yoshiki for!

Mid. January in Hong Kong:
10 years after, with the reunion, X Japan started the world tour in Hong Kong. X Japan is still very popular, everyone loves the smiling Yoshiki on the stage.

Yo: "when I think about the only grief in my life which can never cure, is the suicide of my father, well, how can I explain this feeling?"

In Yoshiki's home town (Chiba) The seaside is 10 mins walk from his home
Yo: " I used to go fishing here"
Question: what is your best memory?
Yo: " since I was here several times a week, I didn't have much feeling about this"
Q: you came here with your family?
Yo: "Yes, with my mother and brother"
Q: when something (bad/unhappy) happened, do you still come here?
Yo: Yes, although it's not really like some soap opera, but, it's really like this way.

His Dad has passed away when Yoshiki was 11 years old.
Yoshiki went back to his primary school.
Yo: oh, it"s here, I can still remember, the school is quite big. It doesn't change much, the building is still the old same. It was the old feeling.

Yo: I used to join a music group after school. Although it was the summer holiday, I still went back to school to practice. What was it, maybee trumpet ?? I can't really remember. After the practice, I went back home and saw my Dad laid (on the floor??) at home. I thought he was sleeping. But, only a triangle cloth was placed on his head. Just like this, I was so shocked. I even asked: why did he sleep in this way? At that moment, I lost my temper and cried.

Q: what is the reason you lost your temper?
Yo: I don't know, my family stopped me later. If (he) just took his life without consciousness, it only left a big question mark to the family. (we will) never know the true answer. (he) just walked away and left this question, then, the only way I can survive is to chase the answer to this question forever.

Afterward, no one talked with him about the death of his father.
His memory with his father is fishing, and, his Dad played the piano to him.

His Dad was 34 years old.

Q: with the sudden death of your Dad, how can (you) overcome the pain.
Yo: oh.. this pain cannot be overcame. The pain is still struggling in my heart. It pain will not cure when it was hurt in this way. you can never understand.

He suffers with the pain (one who can never understand this feeling without experienced it) and live until today.

Yo: because I am a musician, I am dependent on it. How about without music? to tell the truth, I cannot imagine how I can live without music.

the song "tears" was wrote with the memory with his father.

Yoshiki has invited 200 orphans to the Hong Kong concert. It was the first time Yoshiki has sent invitations. After the concert, he made a donation to the orphan organization.

Yo: mmm. (I) feel like why not to do something for the others?
how to say this? It's because of the sympathy towards my father and because of my pain. They understand what our family went through, it's really difficult to accept. then, (I) consider the ones who was left behind and think I can do something. Japan is a country with a very high suicide rate. (if I) want to do it, why not now than later? I am planning to establish a charitable foundation.

Although there is no concrete plan, the willing to help and support the orphans is stronger and stronger day by day.

Yo: when (I) plan to establish the charitable foundation, I think I just cannot push it. Anyway, I am a musician (a rock and roll one). it seems that they (when you put them together) are not too

eep thank you so much for this ^^ i am definitely going to buy the book and my appreciation of Yoshiki has gone up a thousandfold... the only grief that he cant cure?? does that mean he has made peace with hide's death? i hope so... i dunno, but for me death was always easy to accept and deal with and move on, something that has made most people think me rather heartless. but i believe in reincarnation, that nothing will really die, that nothing really didnt exist, nor will it not exist... i wonder... it would be interesting to talk to Yoshiki about these things... i think he would have many interesting things to say, and my only regret is that i wont be able to speak with him in his own language for quite a while... although english is not my native language, russian is (incidentally, i DO know where Lithuania is :D )

i dont live in Russia anymore, and barely speak the language, but i will be going back for a while maybe this summer, or maybe next january... i have some cousins in Lithuania but i don't exactly know where because they are quite distant relatives and we are not on the best terms... :( but we are kind of... cool, isn't it?? ^^

i guess i would like to talk to him about that just to know what he says from a philosophical point of view... i would like to, but it probably will be painful, so i'd rather avoid causing him pain... i did dream twice that me and my friends were on a road trip and we went to LA and we were in traffic, and we were headbanging to Standing Sex, when we realised Yoshiki was in the next car... we were quite embarassed but remembered to do the X thing anyway... and he was very sweet about it and stuff and we got to talking about music... Yoshiki escapes unharmed after being mobbed by fans in Kyoto bookstore
Wednesday 10th June, 02:00 PM JST

X Japan’s Yoshiki visited a Kyoto bookstore on Tuesday to greet fans and talk about the new book “YOSHIKI” (Kadokawa Publishing, 2,310 yen), a non-fiction tale of his dramatic near-death written by Narumi Komatsu.

Having arrived in Kyoto for other work, he proposed the idea of an appearance the night before, deciding on a surprise visit to Ogaki Bookstore in Karasuma. Despite the fact that the visit was only announced on Yoshiki’s website, over 300 fans had appeared by 7:30 a.m. that morning to greet the star.

The store had posted 20 security guards on crowd control for Yoshiki’s visit. When the Mercedes-Benz carrying the star arrived just after noon, fans screamed in excitement, some with tears in their eyes. Yoshiki was accidentally crushed by a group of swarming fans, and sources say he escaped with sprained fingers on his right hand. He was inside just long enough to sign the shop’s poster for the book, but for about three minutes, his presence turned what is normally a quiet book store into a whirlwind of excitement similar to an X Japan concert.

“I’m really happy. We’ve been doing shows here since before our debut, and Kansai is like a second home to me,” he said. When asked about playing concerts in the region, Yoshiki announced, “It’s a definite possibility. Things have already started to move, and if all goes well, it might happen some time this year.” Regarding the location, he commented, “I’d definitely want a stage built that won’t shake.”

Will Kansai fans get to see the “X Jump” on the same scale as Tokyo Dome?!

Yurga: In response to your comment about older people not understanding the beauty of Yoshiki and other Japanese men...Well, as one of the oldest broads on these threads, I can assure you that I definitely appreciate the beauty of Yoshiki. For any man to look that good at his age...it's a crime, I tell ya. He is gorgeous, sexy, and SO talented. And so are a lot of other Japanese performers - my very favorite being Yomi from Nightmare. Yeah, I know, he's like half my age...but he is so HOT. And his beautiful voice just makes my heart melt every time I hear it, which is every day!!! I may be old (by the calendar, anyhow), but I'm not dead...or blind... And, thanks for the great pictures - it's nice to see Toshi is also looking good these days.

X JAPAN　YOSHIKI、In LA for a cervical foraminal stenosis operation

At the end of last month, seems that Yoshiki underwent surgery for some neck problems he’s been having. This is the information taken from X JAPAN’s official myspace.

Drummer, pianist and X JAPAN band leader, Yoshiki, will undergo neck surgery on Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Beverly Hills, CA. Dr. Neel Anand, Director of the Cedars-Sinai Spine Center, will perform a cervical foraminotomy.

Due to his intense drumming style, Yoshiki developed a worsening of his neck pain and left hand numbness over the past month, affecting his music performance. His condition has been evaluated by doctors in the U.S. and Japan. Yoshiki underwent a spinal x-ray series, an MRI of the spine, and an EMG. After seeking second and third opinions on the diagnosis and treatment, he concluded that the foraminotomy was necessary for the cervical foraminal stenosis.

Yoshiki’s primary physician at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Tommy H. Tomizawa (UCLA Assistant Professor), states that he will need a few weeks to recover from the surgery and a month or more of rehabilitation. If his condition does not improve over the next several months, laminectomy, discectomy and spinal fusion would be considered. Artificial disc placement would be another treatment of choice.

Drummer, pianist and founder of popular rock group X Japan, YOSHIKI, 43, flew in by helicopter to watch his “Team Yoshiki & Dome Project” car in the Super GT Series race at Suzuka Circuit on Sunday.

YOSHIKI was wearing a neck brace and had his left arm in plaster, following surgery in late July in the U.S. on a slipped disc in his spine. He revealed that he would have to get the disc replaced within the next three years, and that if nerve damage in his arm did not heal in the next two years, then it would be permanent. He said doctors cautioned him on his drumming practice which will resume next month, telling him not to raise his arms too high, not to twist his body left and right, and not to use anything heavier than one kilogram.

Still, YOSHIKI was upbeat, saying the difficulties he faces now are nothing compared to when the band split up in 1997 or when guitarist HIDE was found hanged in his apartment the following year.

He spoke of his involvement with live video website Ustream.tv, and said he hopes to put out a best-of album before the end of the year, which will include some new songs he is working on now.

After watching his team car come in fourth, YOSHIKI then went to Ise Shrine, also in Mie Prefecture, and prayed for a recovery in his health. YOSHIKI also revealed that he has prepared his will given the risks involved with his spinal injuries, and that nearly one quarter of his assets will be used for the benefit of his long-term fans.


Calm down Yoshiki, it's just back surgery, you're not dying, no need to talk about wills and such.
