I have had friends of Italian, Chinese and American once.
But at that time, my English skill was much terrible than now.
And I was so sorry for those people and so sad.

If you are Windows users, you can't use Japanese language on AIM.
My friends who are using Japanese with AIM accounts are using Gaim.

Actually i've never learnt japanese and am learning english for about 7 years (same for german). I learnt only by watching animes and might wanna learn more japanese someday. ^^
Anyway, messenger can handle unicode contrary to icq or aim, so maybe you should try it :D

Mostly this depends on the operating system and the Locale installed. If you have windows xp, it has alll this checked during installation, so you will be able to view kana rightaway, as well as other languages such as chinese trad/simp, and korean.

yep. Gaim works great for typing in in japanese! Mac helped me out loads as i was stuck trying to get AiM to swap to hiragana and katakana. :mad:

There is another forum at which Japanese people ask questions about English and English speakers ask questions about Japanese at Japanese Online (http://japanese-online.com/forum/index.htm). It seems that all questions (either about Japanese or English) elicit quite a few responses and sometimes debate, which can be good for the native speakers as well. If you would like another place to practice English and ask questions, I recommend doing so there. では、また。英語の勉強を頑張ってね！

Alright it's now time for the "How and Why” of English and Japanese..
英語及び日本語のいかにそしてなぜ。

はじまして。Hajimashite (lit. it's the first time we meet)
どうぞよろし・。Douzo yoroshiku (lit. please regard me favorably)
these's are the two greeting phrases that most people have trouble in the begining to understand.
And for non native English speakers... some of the most common expressions of greetings are so much not fully understood... and some times native English speakers from other nations find it hard to understand eachother too.

Example:
America: "I need to go to the restroom/bathroom."
Ausies: "I need to go to the dunie/toilit"

Other phrases are: "Hi" which is sometimes heard as "high", so the understanding is lost right there. "Yo", "S'up/W'sup", "Hey" "How are you?" (with the pｈrase "How are you?" isn't really a question that is ment to be really answered at all, just say "Fine, thanks!" or one of the other greetings even "How are you?")

Added to the lexacon of American English is "otaku オタク” which means to them is "Anime/manga fan" aka "fanboy/fangirl", but the real meaning of otaku is "fanatic" or easier to understand is "fan of...". Such as "manga no otaku" (fan of manga(magazines/comicbooks)).

here's a pretty interesting thing... most people new to english will have problems with this...

the were-we're-where problem

where = location [inquisitive] (ex - where did I park my car?)
we're = we are (ex - we're hiding in the bushes)
were = past tense of "are" [inquisitive] (ex - were you hiding in the bushes?)

as far as I know, there are no exceptions :cool:

the reason why I was caught off gaurd by you, was that I wasn't (was not) in my mind into Japanese 「日本語」. I was perinvolved with other things and people in different languages too. I just can't (can not/ kann nicht) flip-flop very easily from one language to another. Every time I try to flip-flop form one language to another, I get a major headache.. in other words, my head feels as if it will go "BOOM!" and I start to understand nothing in any language at all. fondels new PSX Oooooo mmmmmm >^.^< ニコニコ！

mai - well i've found way too many meanings of the word mai to list them all right here. The meanings change depending on the kanji/kana that is made up the word.

mine - noun- "a shaft/hole/tunnel in the groung/Mt./hill for the objects hidden inside of them"
mine - noun- to refer of ones self ownership "thats mine and not yours!"

bat- noun- object "this is my baseball bat to whack you with!
bat- noun- lifeform "this rare bat that sat on my hat as he ate my fat cat!"

beetle- noun- lifeform "look at that lil crawly thing on the ground, it looks like a beetle to me."
beatle- noun- name of a band "Beatle, when you say it sounds like the lil crawly things on the ground but when you read it, it's beat music."
