View Full Version : Offensive word filter.

I knew this existed, and I've never really been bothered by it. But I sent a private message to someone and it contained the word "m o r o n" but without spaces, obviously. (No, I wasn't insulting them.) And I couldn't understand why THAT word would be censored. Anyway, I guess I'm making a suggestion to be able to turn the filter off if you wish? Of course I think it should be turned on by default, and to unregistered users. Or maybe just an option to turn it off in PM's only? I dunno, I don't mind too much, so if you guys don't change it, it's alright.
Thanks.

I wonder if it does the stupid half-word censoring, like some forums do with the well known fantasy author Michael Moorcock.

Well, I get quite a few PM's that have little asterisks here and there. Not mentioning any names... :p
It won't let me say ******, either, and that can be as innocent as a lollipop(or not)...

I think the whole concept of censorship is offensive. I believe in selfregulation.
Besides, people that use swearwords too often will simply get banned from the forum, because those posts will likely be reported to the moderators.

Nope, it doesn't seem to do the half-word stuff.
Micheal Moorcock is safe, as is Sir James Windsley****.

Let's try to trick the censor : "*****", -*****- m'oron
A female dog is called a *****
And now, test its language abilities :
In French : fils-de-pute, cretin, connard, petasse
In Italian : vafancullo, stronzo, cazzo
In Japanese : バカ野郎

Why do I get the impression this is going to be the most ucked up thread full of blody swear-words that this forum has, or ever will odding see?
:p
By the way, I'm reminded of a certain Japan chat room where you'd get auto-warned every time you used 'shiteimasu' etc.

Visibly that only works for English and just adding a ' in the word is enough to cheat.

so for the most part it is self-regulation. and like twisted said, anyone with too much of a potty-mouth wont be saying anything anymore.

Moron.
Well, using fullwidth ASCII works.
I'm surprised you admins and stuff are "testing" words yourself. Don'tcha have access to the actual filter or something? Eh, I have no clue how it works.
But I agree with what you guys said. If someone uses a cuss word non-offensively, then it'd be alright. So I think an option to turn it off (if you want) would be good. If someone's going to use language like that, offensively, I mean... then they'd be banned, whether it shows asterisks or not.
huh whats this got with swearing?

i hate being regulated >_< swear words add flavour to the language!
pretty annoying in games like Ragnarok when i speak swedish with my friends
s l u t - means "end" or "finished" in swedish.. so it keeps our perfectly nice sentences regulated...
.. i love the word "regulate".. REGULATORS!!!!.. (yeah, my attention span is VERY short...)

Gee, what a funky thread!
Let's try it out, shall we...
Ficken, Bumsen, Blasen, alles auf dem Rasen,
Ist der Rasen kurz geschnitten, geht man auf dem Sofa ficken,
Ist der Rasen naß statt trocken, kann man ficken auch im Hocken!
Works fine
