Hello ... hope my question is not culturally offensive :sorry:

Will be attending a Japanese fren's wedding in Tokyo later this year ...

Would like to offer a sum of money as a wedding gift ...

Would like to find out what amount is appropriate and acceptable ....

Please advise; thank you

A close friend? If so and you don't want to break the bank, around 30,000 yen should do just fine. If you are really close chums, try for 50,000 yen.

The number 4 is to be avoided (as in 40,000) you can give 10,000 yen if things are tight, but I am sure your friend will be thrilled with anything you can give.

You know about the envelope thing for giving money at weddings, right?
