i wish i would have found some of that concerto moon..they sound interesting
A buddy of mine reommended Loudness, who've been around for a while. I hear Melt Banana is pretty good, too. They actually come to the States for shows, which is nice. They're on tour with Mike Patton's Fantomas.

Loudness have been around more than 20 years
led by the super guitarist Akira Takasaki [influenced by Eddie Van Halen]
they toured in Europe and North America during the 1980s and received very good critics, things looked so bright for them, but the vocal Minoru Nihara left the band in 1988 and things just went downhill
during the 1990s they kept chaning the line-up,only Akira Takasaki stayed in the band throughout those years, the band's style also changed
in 2002,all the original members came back, their music sound very heavy and somehow 'thrashy' now

I checked out a few underground rock bands while I was in Japan that were really good. My favorite was "Kobose". They're influenced by Primus and the vocalist/bassist has a cool, unique style of singing. All three members are incredibly skilled and put on one of the most energetic live shows I've ever seen. They're from Tokyo. Also, for some good straight-up metal, I liked "Eyes" from Nagoya.

Not really metal but in my opinion the best Japanese band that I have ever heard: Envy

I used to listen to Loudness during the 80's.
I'll have to check out their new sound since I had never heard that they got back together til now.

Def check out Loudness....your boy knows what he is talking about.
Akira Takasaki is the man on guitar.
He totally shreds.
I highly recommend, Thunder in the East, Loudness (92)-with Masaki Yamada from Flatbacker and EZO fame on vocals, and Disillusion.
Anthem is another excellent metal band.
Gargoyle is pretty cool too.
EZO and Flatbacker are essential.
Lots to choose from thats for sure.....
\m/ metal!!! :-)

I'm looking for bands that have a sound like Devil Wears Prada, UnderOath, Norma Jean, etc...
I know they exist because I've heard them on the radio here, but I don't have the language ability to ask "do you know the name of this band?"
any help?
