people in town. There used to be a section with cherry trees. At certain times of the year there were little kids wading pools about every fifty feet. Each was filled with eels that you could catch on one foot (fishing?) poles with treble hooks on the end & no bait; you just snaged them!
At that point it would be cut up & cooked on a little habatchi and served on a kabob stick or in a plate. I can still hear the squeals of the young ladies as they were hooked or cut up! I must say, I was to grossed out to try any!

PS - Fukuoka had 4 beautiful parks, north, south, east, west as well as a lot of oceanfront areas!

:hihi:

The city that's famous for unagi (http://www.hamamatsu-cci.or.jp/industry/number_one/13_unagi/13j_unagi.html) would be Hamamatsu (http://www.city.hamamatsu.shizuoka.jp/hamaEng/).
