The Asahi and Tokyo Shimbun report on a Tokyo High Court decision to support a deportation order for a visaless Iranian family who have been in Japan for some 13 years.
Last September, the Tokyo District Court suspended a deportation order issued by the Justice Ministry, arguing it was inhumane to deport the family as some members -- in particular the family's two school-age daughters -- had become fully integrated in and accustomed to a Japanese way of life.
The High Court, however, ultimately supported the ministry's claim that the parents decision to settle in Japan illegally was premeditated, thus stripping them of any entitlement to government leniency.
