Budget hotel near JR Shizuoka station. What to do there?

I'll be attending a show in Shizuoka on 5/15, I have been to Shizuoka twice but never stayed overnight. I want to go there the night prior to the show. I'm not sure whether it is easy to find a budget hotel ($50 USD) around the JR Shizuoka train station area? Does anyone know?

Also, is there anything to do in the area after 5pm? Any places that are not too far away?

Shizuoka has a pretty active nightlife actually. A few blocks away from the train station there are a few streets full of bars. What show are you going to see?

Actually, if your looking for good place to stay. It a bit of a distance from the station, on the other side of Shizuoka Downtown, but check out the Shizuoka Royal Hotel. It's just south of Sengen-Jinja (if you know where that is). It's about 30 years old and only about 6,000yen for the night. Other than that, there's a Love Hotel just down the street from the station, but I haven't been there nor know how much it is.

The show is Shizuoka hobby show 2004.

By budget hotel I am thinking of the Tatami style or anything for a single person for around $60 USD. Do you think I can ramdomly find one over there easily?

While the Shizuoka Royal Hotel is a budget hotel, it doesn't have a tatami floor.

very reasonable decent hotel especially popular with small-budget sportsmen and students. A bit awat from town centre but easily reachable by bus from Shizuoka JR Station and within cheap taxi fare.
