Well, let's see. I would like to eventually build my dream home overlooking the East China Sea (here in Okinawa) and have enough disposable cash to travel back and forth to the onsen's in mainland Japan. And I guess since this is a dream, I would always be surrounded by young pretty Japanese women! :D

I used to work in Tokyo as a character designer for a games company, I also did a lot of other graphic design during this time for japanese games. I had an amazing beautiful girl and we were going to get married.

for some reason I moved back to the UK (still in the games biz, jsut a bit higher up the food chain now), now minus the girl but plus the billions of famicom and super famicom games / other japanese tit tat I buy on ebay.

I don't know wherer it all went wrong, however I'm endevouring to return very soon, I just have to save money... So in a way I already served my dream.

Now my dream is to return and study traditional japanese art in Tokyo Uni, do a part time job if I can and meet some one nice to get married too (of course, that's toally tentative, not a pre-requisite), then sell paintings and prints and live out my days in or near toyko ~ never made sense to leave in th first place but it comforts me to read these posts and know I'm not alone in my mental desire to live in the land of the rising sun.

My dream WAS to be a rock star in Japan. Then I realized that the music scene in Japan is much different than in America and Japan was unlikely to be interested in the kind of music I would make.

It's gone, Frank. Permed dye-jobs are the norm now. (I will join you in wailing and gnashing of teeth, if it's any comfort).

You do realize you're going to need to get a mechanic's license, don't you?

I'd sort of like to apprentice to a stonemason, I think. But since I am a bit old for that sort of thing, I'll just stick to what I do now.

2 x All about pets pop-up

Next time warn me, and I'll use Firefox. :p

You need ProtoWall.

PaulTB
Jul 29, 2004, 19:09
You need ProtoWall.
I've got Outpost which can do all the anti-advert stuff. However I use a number of sites which would tend to have bits caught in the cross-fire so I don't have those features turned on. I do have most of the big ad related sites on the restricted site list.

If it wasn't for a certain ( http://japanese.about.com/ ) site* that is easier to use in IE I'd have ditched IE for Firefox long ago.

* Wish they'd get their act together.

ProtoWall is also a nice peace-of-mind thing to have running for p2p users.

Yeah well, but the only real peace of mind available for p2p users comes in two flavours
1. Ignorance
2. Not being p2p users
:D

Half year back or so there was a big stir in the WinNY community because someone had been arrested for illegal file sharing on the basis of network traffic load analysis for his ISP account (or some such). I don't know if
a) The Japanese ISP's just hand out the raw data or
b) The police went to them and said "We'd like to arrest a WinNY user, who have you got?" or
c) if it was packet sniffing stuff

Mike Cash
Jul 29, 2004, 20:58
I can't speak for the others, but I will give a brief explanation of ProtoWall.

It is a sort of firewall (controls information sent in and out of your computer, allowing some, disallowing others) which looks for data or data requests coming from certain IP addresses. It blocks the undesirable ones. It isn't perfect, but it helps block you from being searched by recording industry groups. It can also block some data going to/from advertising companies when viewing web pages.

My dream would be much like what i am doing here in the U.S. now i would go around doing completely random acts of kindness for people just beacause i enjoy the look on thier face when i have made them happy i never stick around to talk though i am like a superhero in ways once i help someone i leave to help someone else like this onetime i was at the mall this little Japanese boy who could not have been more than 7 years of age and was with a man with a terminal illness was throwing pennies into a wishing fountain and then i noticed he started to run out but he was haveing such a good time so i went to the food court and i cashed a twenty dollar bill into pennies and purchased a satin pouch to put them in and then while the boy was throwing in his last penny i walked up to him and handed him the pouch as he opened it his eyes filled with a certain glow of happiness and then I left with a smile. My dream would be doing stuff like that for the people of Japan.
