Well, as much as I like being named after "one of the most powerful pieces", I've got to say that I much prefer being an Angry Postal Worker. I've tried changing it back using in my profile, but no go. I've just recovered from a crippling injury. How could this happen to me? *sob*

Still, it is nice to be one of the most powerful pieces in Shogi. Makes a change from being sullen and hungry. Angry, I mean. Angry.

Sorry to hear about your injury, I hope you're better! Unfortunately, custom titles had to be removed, but there should be enough space for an Angry Postal Worker in your signature.

Hairyneville,,, sorry to hear that you had an injury too, glad to chat to you again! hey you should see our most recent angry postal worker walking our streets and delivering my mail, his face is so tence and squished up that I'm afraid to say "good morning " are you working here (Nr.Ireland) at this present time?? JOKE,JOKE!!!. I'm sure that you would prove not so angry if you where here,, cause I know that your a big softie!
@Shogi,,,, This game sounds facinating! I play Chess, not so regular, but I find it a kind of "mental kick-start" probably due to the fact that most of my day is spent with my two wonderful kids and the biggest challenge I get is convincing my 5year old son(kevin) that he is "TIERD" and its "BED-TIME" haha, but Shogi !! I must fine out more about it, I'm sure that its different peices and I know from what I have read that the movements are different, an investagation is due!

Hey, look! That signature thing works! Cheers Thomas. Will the wonders of modern technology never end. . .

I'm feeling kind of guilty for wanting to get rid of my lovely new shogi piece, especially considering everyone's positive response to them. I have zero patience with the internet (especially at the moment, because it's slowed almost to a crawl . . . it might be quicker shouting really loudly from a tall hill in response to your posts. . .) so I'll pass my idea on to Thomas, who clearly has more patience than me, and is less likely to chew pieces out of his monitor;

wouldn't it be great if there were online Shogi games? We could set up a little Japan Reference Tournament and you could all wipe the floor with me. Am I a shogi hustler, or am I genuinely crap at cerebral games? Well, there's only one way to find out . . . over to you Thomas.

It's nice of you to have such confidence in me, Debs, but I'd best warn you that I'm a creative swearer once too many things get on top of me. On the subject of which, you're the perfect person to ask . . . do the Irish REALLY say "feck"?

@ hairyneville,,,lololol, yip we say it all the fecking time,,,lolol
Thomas sorry!!!
@Shogi ,,, thats a brilliant idea for a forum tournament, but maybe we need a Shogi master (boss) just to keep an eye on all our cheating haha, I wonder if there is a game of Shogi that can be played even against the computer for starters,(practise). As hairyneville said "over to you Thomas"

hooray! I LOVE Shogi! (in inverse proportion to its skill of me...lol)

Here is the rule and ranks of Shogi. it extremely resembles western chess.
http://www.m-net.ne.jp/~sekita/help/rules.html

@Thomas san

It may be easier to understand if to get corresponded with them all to ranks of western chess.
also I suppose it is better to replace the order of the ranks, as follows.
coz I'd have a mad more if my Rook or Bishop was captured rather than Gold or Silver at least...lol

O-sho (King)
Hisha (Rook)
Kaku (Bishop)
Kin (Gold General)
Gin (Silver General)
Keima (Knight)
Kyosha (Lance)
Fu (Pawn)

I wonder how I can see page 2 and 3..?

Hi Meverie, it's good to know that we have a member who actually has a clue about shogi, lolol!

Thanks for your advise, I will try to apply to our user title system as soon as possible.

Oops ! this needs updating too.

The new usertitles are based on the Japanse nobility titles as follow :

0 post : Heimin (commoner)
25 posts : Jinushi (landlord)
100 posts : Samurai (knight)
200 posts : Danshaku (baron)
350 posts : Shishaku (viscount)
500 posts : Hakushaku (count)
750 posts : Koushaku (duke, prince)
1000 posts : Koutaishi (crown prince)
1500 posts : Tennou (emperor)
2000 posts : Kami-sama (divinity)

Of course, most of these titles (from danshaku to koushaku) were only created from Meiji and disappeared after WWII. I didn't add daimyou or taikun as these pre-Meiiji tittles would have overlapped on the others. Samurai is already a small anachronism, as samurai had just lost their priviledges when Western-style nobility titles appeared in Japan. Anyhow, just for forum use.

About color ranking. Maybe you could still have different categories for your post level but the color of the rank goes through out all. So if someone is a 'Super Saiyan' and some else is "Super Sailor Moon' but both of their rank colors are red then you know they are at the same rank.

Good idea for the colour. What about the karate/judo belt order : white, yellow. orange, green, blue, brown, black, then "dan" after that ?

Yeah, the colour ranking makes it much easier for those of us who can't be bothered going to check which rank is which... lol

Lol, I use to copy the rank names and put them into Japanese dictionaries just to find out what the hell they were because I had no clue. XD Now all I have to do is remember the color order!

Great job, Maciamo! (at the cost of being demoted to green belt due to "junk posting" and having to go on a "conscious-posting" [low carb? god no!] diet...)

I'm kind of glad I'm exempt from the color code. Especially after my post count was cut by about 500...

Not that post count matters to me, mind you...

ok becuase i was bored and no one had made this yet. i put the ranks up with their respective pictures. so now it should be easier to compare the colors to the ranks and if you dont read japanese, easily tell what that kanji on your "belt" means.

Are those colors the same colors used in the Judo belt system? If so, what does red stand for?
