What types of music are you looking for? There are Japanese bands representing almost every genre of music, so it's a little difficult to give some names without narrowing the list down a bit.

You might also have some good luck getting advice by posting your question in the J-Pop Forum... that one is dedicated exclusively to Japanese music.

But let me know what you're into, and I can help as much as possible...

im looking for, pop, rock, techno, dance
and whatever is popular in japan, and perhaps some relly oldfashioned music from china, with the sitarr or what itīs called, anyways, the often play it in kung-fu movies, Hero for one. in that one they play it when the main character and his oponent meet each other in a mental battle.

but i dont want any music made befour the y2k. exept that oldfashioned thingi ofcours

PS. l'arc~en~ciel is rather good, so music like that is quite good, i think u can place them under pop

You had fun making that list, didn't you?

Don't forget L'arc~en~ciel's related solo projects:

Hyde
TETSU69
S.O.A.P.
Acid Android

Also, you forgot one of my fave pop/rock combos, Mr. Children.

The Boom is a pretty cool fusion band combining traditional Okinawan folk styles with rock, urban, reggae and many other styles.

Here are some other suggestions by genre:
TECHNO: Takkyu Ishino, Yoshinori Sunahara
POP: Polysics, tommy february6
ROCK: Spitz, Kyosuke Himuro, BOOWY
DANCE: Two-Mix, TRF

C'mon... everyone add some groups, and then we'll have a huge list to refer to when this question comes up again (as it often does).

im sorry that i said music from befout 2000, but because the european music from befour 2000 kinda sux in my ears (there are exeptions) i asumed that japan would have been on the same track as EU, that time

PS, i will save all of the Artists / bands in a file that i will save for a long time, the question is just if iīll find it again after iīve moved it to some other folder than the desctop

Well, that depends on what you've been listening to. That Eurobeat stuff from the mid-nineties is still quite popular in Japan. Especially with common JPop artists like Ayumi Hamasaki or Rina Aiuchi this is the case. Not so much in their titletracks, but you find a lot of that in their additional remix-tracks.

Then again, so is typical 80's pop and rock. With the exception of their most recent work, almost anything from Every Little Thing sounds like Stock, Aitken and Waterman productions from that era (Kylie Minogue, Sonia, Rick Ashley, that sort of stuff).

But there's also cutting edge "now" productionwork going on, which rivals any European or American producers and in some cases it actually is produced by American or European producers though.

Austin Dallas (producer of TLC, Madonna, Michael Jackson, etc) produced the latest Namie Amuro single Put 'm up.
Dutch trance-producer Ferry Corsten did great remixwork for Ayumi Hamasaki. This kinda thing happens a lot.

Japan has a great scala of it's own producers. Shiina Ringo is brilliant, X-Japan frontman Yoshiki is still going strong and then there's Tomoyasu Hotei, Tetsuro Oda, Tsunku, Taku from M-Flo and the list goes on.

These people are up there with the greatest producers in the world and sadly, most of their work never leaves Japan.

If it's up to me, that's going to change and i call all of you to do everything you can to share this rich musical scene with the rest of the world.

Hey Picardo,

Oh, you've just GOTTA get a copy of Judy & Mary's "POWER SOURCE" album. Then reach out & grab a copy Mai Kuraki's "Like A Star In The Night" album. Then borrow your imaginary Japanese big sister's copy of "Something Else's" latest album. Then go to Yoyogi park on Sunday afternoon with a friend & borrow her "Every Little Thing" double album entitled :"Every Ballad Songs". On the way home, drop by a music store & purchase "Sunday Girls's" "Sukidayo" album. Now ya can get all of these happy tunes from a website known as "YESASIA.COM". Grab your chopsticks, squint your eyes, grab a little Harajuku girl, & come to the Golden Strip in Williamsport, PA.. They've just opened a real, live, authentic Japanese restaurant there.

Oh I know try Juemilia's "All the things she said" song. O.O It'll sound kinda like Tatu's song "All the things she said" only that Juemilia's song is mostly in japanese. But it's a good song.
