Dark side of love

Europeans have "Troy" which is a good example for how destructive love can be - war over a woman. Do Japanese (and the other countries too, why should we narrow only to Japan?) have something like this too? [I can bet they do have something like this, just take a look at their fairy tales... but, this is another topic XD].

It doesn't have to be only in the literature, it can be also real (historic) story.

Europe is not a country and I bet there are some more equivalents of that in other regions of the world.

I'm pretty sure she knows Europe is not a country, though some think of it as pretty unified lately. I even find myself saying "Europeans", as if they were a whole.

And no, I don't need the technicalities of it all.

Back to the subject.

Really? Europe is not a country?! I appreciate that you enlightened me.

Of course I know Europe is not a country. I live in Europe. But "Troy" is cultural heritage of European culture, along with many other classical greek and roman things. I could give examples from my country, which would nobody tell anything (unfortunately Polish literature is unknown to people even in Europe, I say it from my own experience, it may be a bad experience... XD).

And by saying other countries I was refering to "other than Japan".

Yes, and I was asking about these equivalents. I'm asking what are the stories about "dark side of love".

@ Kirei_na_me, I don't think Europe is unified or will be unified soon. European countries have only some things in common - that's why it's one culture zone. Culture doesn't have anything to do with politics, that's why Europe won't be fast (if ever) unified [vide: Iraq]. But that's another story. XD

I think Troy is from Greek culture you can also say it's part of European culture as total. So then you can also state that some part of one country's culture is also part of the total culture of the region where the country belongs to. Hehehe.

I didn't trust my ex boyfriends, I sure as heck don't trust my brother, and there was a long period of time when I couldn't even trust my own father.

Is it men?!

@ Kama, you want me to give a good example of how destructive love can be. For example: war over a woman, from my country or region?

I will tell you a very tragic legend of my country China. This tragic legend is about the Ming general Wu San Gui (1612 - 1678).

In 1644 a dramatic change of dynasties that ruled China took place.
Wu San Gui was ordered to protect a part of the Great Wall of China called Shanhaiguan.
When the rebel leader called Li had conquered Beijing, the Ming Emperor Yizong commited suicide and thereby the Ming Dynasty ended which had lasted about 300 years.
The father of Wu San Gui also got captured and Li forced his father to tell Wu San Gui to surrender. Wu San Gui had agreed to surrender and started travelling back to Beijing.
However when he heard that his concubine Chen Yuan Yuan had been kidnapped by the rebels he got very angry and he asked the Manchus for help. The Manchus are from the north eastern area now known as Manchuria.
The Manchus wanted access to the central plain of China, but that was blocked by the Great Wall. Wu San Gui then opened the gate and let the Manchus into China. With the combined armies of Wu San Gui and that of the Manchus they defeated the rebels. However before Li Zi Cheng withdrew from Beijing he killed the father of Wu San Gui and also his concubine Chen Yuan Yuan. Wu San Gui had also helped establish the Qing Dynasty by letting the Manchus into China. Now Li was defeated and all of China was conquered by the Manchus.

So he had lost his father and big love Chen Yuan Yuan and also betrayed his country by giving the Manchus access to the central plain of China.

Dark Side of Human Nanananature.....

Wow, four hours for all those diggings.

I have known a lot of Chinese people who are pro-Japan or anti-China, but they don't call themselves Chinese, they call themselves Taiwanese. Some Shanghai people are pro-Japan too, but they don't relate themselves to Wang Jei (can't remember), they usually would use the first name of some Japanese celebrities as their English name like Kenji, Akina or Hiroko...

Actually, a lot of people come to this forum hoping to make some Japanese friends. So, if a Japanese person asking for help in English, a lot of other people will respond. But if a "Chinese" person asking for help in Japanese housing or posting some news (it doesn't matter whether it's anti or pro China), not many people (not even the Chinese members) in this forum will be interested.

And no, I don't need the technicalities of it all.
If it were Yuka82, I am pretty sure a lot of people (not KNM though) will be interested in all the technicalities.

Today's valuable lesson:
Better know your target audience and how to reach them. Yes, marketing and advertising is all about REACH!

Hee hee (many Chinese like to post laughs like ha ha ha, doesn't it sound like the sinister laughters of those evil characters in the martial art movies?).

You are welcome.^_^

I'm actually Taiwanese, but let me explain this a bit further. Taiwan was ruled by the Chinese Manchu dynasty from 1683 until 1895. Ethnic Chinese (Han) started to come to Taiwan as early as the 15th century, many came in the 18th and 19th century. Also after the war between the Nationalists and Communists from 1945 until 1949 had ended, Chiang Kaishek and his supporters fled to Taiwan.

So you see here that the history of the ethnic chinese who came from the mainland to Taiwan is attached to the history of China. I still see China as my country in a "historical sense". I hope this clears some misunderstandings.
I do think Taiwan should be a independent country, because otherwise Taiwan would just be a province of China and would not have a democracy anymore.

I Bet.....

If you added up all the women who were killed by their husband or boyfriend; and all the men killed by their wife or lover, it would total more than any war!! Every time you turn around, you hear on the news about love leading to death.

Whenever I refer them as Chinese, they correct it to "Taiwanese" immediately...

for up to 50 times and they are not tired of it.

I think Taiwan is an independent country too. It would be boring if there was only one China.

I agree, Frank. But frankly speaking I have enough of such news everyday. Besides killing your husband/wife etc. doesn't mean it was made of love. More often it's made because of lack of love. Somtimes it's a sign of desperation.
