商品 is an item on sale, and it is used for shopping.
But item is 物 if you are sent from your friends.

and I added "連絡をお待ちしております". it means "Please give me an answer by return of mail".

You don't need special way to approach the Japanese.

You say your name, the point(your problem), your wish(solution), and "よろしくお願い致します" at last.

I think you have not problem in your sentence. If you want to write polite Japanese, please write in English and post here. I(and friendly member who is familiarity with Japanese) can translate into polite Japanese.

Well the original English wasn't quite natural so it's easy to misinterpret (maybe I have?) however I think he meant that he was worried.

はちょっと率直な言い方だと思いますね。If it has already been mailed/sent out, please ignore this inquiry のほうがいいでしょう。

I'm a little concerned about the use of おりました. IIRC, おる has both 'neutral/polite' and 'humble' modes. As you are asking about somebody else's action is it appropriate or not? I'm not sure but Google has much fewer uses of the question form をしておりましたか than it does without the か

警護 and such is always a pain in the *ahem* neck so I'll be interested to see whether my concern is way off or on target.

[EDIT] There's a good keigo quiz at web-japanese - I might refresh my very rusty skills there after I watch another 25 minutes of anime.

I was trying as delicately as possible to ask whether this language school I've been corresponding with had sent out the requested materials or not.
My keigo skills are extremely lacking as well. After listening to elderly people use honorific "naru" forms with me, I'd pretty much thrown in the towel until now. Isn't itashimasu both honorific and humble, though, as well ?

Don't worry, there is not a serious problem. You can get across what you want to say thoroughly.

But there are two defects. One thing is a humble word "おる", and another is a "送信".

PaulTB-san already said, this word "おる" is a humble word(謙譲語) and this word is used for only myself. In this case, "今月の半ばには、すでにお送り頂けたのでしょうか？" is good.

And "送信". This word "送信" is used in computer network frequently, specially e-mail. But usually Japanese don't use this word in daily life. Because this word is a formal and stiff style. And "送る" is good in this case.

Thanks NANGI! With my textbook understanding that both oru and itadaku are humble (forms of iru & morau?), I suppose either one may have been understandable. As long as I can refrain from sending out notices with kudasaru (honorific?) about myself.....

動詞というよりも、動詞が名詞のように変化し、それにいたしました
ということばがついたという感じ。

With my textbook understanding that both oru and itadaku are humble (forms of iru & morau?), I suppose either one may have been understandable. As long as I can refrain from sending out notices with kudasaru (honorific?) about myself..... もしすでにお送り下さった後でしたら、お手数をおかけして申し訳ございませんでした。
