President Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday acted as the country’s biggest promoter of Filipino workers as she urged Japan to employ “world-class, compassionate” Filipino caregivers.

The President said given Japan’s quickly ageing society, there will be demand for health-care workers which the Philippines can provide.

“The Philippines’ young population ... supplies some of the best-trained and compassionate health-care workers in the world,” Mrs. Macapagal-Arroyo said, adding that countries in North America and Europe now host Filipino workers.

sending filipino caregivers to japan needs further in-depth study. researches, including ours (on-going), have led us to the realization that it is not as easy as exporting "supermaids" (the term that the beloved president of the Philippines used).
there are so many factors that the president should make in-depth study before saying something that will haunt her (if she has a conscience left for the filipino people), and not mainly rely on her advisers (some of them have big stakes on this business of sending our poor countrymen only to suffer the consequences of haste.)
why doesn't she start looking for alternatives within the country for available employments for nurses and caregivers instead of sending them to other countries just to be able to accumulate several millions of dollars, only to be wasted in political gimmicks?
