Coolest Gaijin in Japan

Japan Times

Thought this could make a good topic. In your opinion, who is the most well known or coolest or your favorite Gaijin in Japan? I don't know many.. But I'll have to say me once I get to Tokyo.. Heh.

lol i can't stop chuckling to myself about bob sapp. the memories of japanese tv have come flooding back.

i remember this family was concerned that the husband wasn't taking his prescribed medicine, so they told (i think) nhk who arranged some bob sapp therapy. (he's about 7 foot tall and built like a tank for those that don't know.) they put hidden cameras in all the rooms, and when the husband got home from work they secretly watched him. after dinner when he was supposed to take his medicine he didn’t, so bob was given the signal and he burst into the house yelling "KUSURI NOME! KUSURI NOME!" (he couldn't say anything else.) the husband was so freaked out he went to call the police, but bob grabbed the phone out of his hands and snapped the receiver into two. lol, it was terrible. the husband still refused to take the medicine despite all this, which kind of stuffed up the happy ending... so the tv crew had to rush in and explain everything. even so, very funny stuff

Bob Sapp is this Big tall arse black American, who is mostly famous for his size and only famous in Japan. Don't think he wins too many fights in K1 though

Yeah his Japanese ability is definitely lame. But I've meet people that have been in Japan for over 10 years and can speak Japanese as well as I can, and I've only been here 6 months. Now that's just stupid. How can you want to live in a country but not want to learn it's language? Knowing how to communicate makes life so much more easier and so much more fun.

And Bob Sapp ain't a very good K1 fighter either.

Well, Sapp beat Ernesto Hoost, a 4 time K1 champ, twice, and fights pretty well in Pride fights, but the best thing about him was his CD, "Sapp Time." Hilariously bad Japanese, mixed with a variety of real Japanese stars, plus a goofy video made this an instant classic.

If I were Bob Sapp, I wouldn't care about Japanese either. He scores major points because he's a foreigner who's just as weird as Japanese TV, and has an interpreter around all the time. When you are either training, fighting, or appearing on Japanese TV 300 times a year or whatever he does, that leaves precious little time to spend on language lessons.

Lay off Sapp! He's actually pretty intelligent for a washed up football player who was working in a morgue before he came to Japan. Plus, from what I understand, he doesn't go out much in public. That is, everytime he does he gets swamped by fans. Hence his lack of contact with much of everyday Japan, hence the big lack of language skills. I'm sure most of the people who surround him speak English, anyways.
