What alchohol do you drink and why?

What is your choice of alchoholic beverage?
Mine is bacardi or any sort of vodka I can get my hands on.
Why do I drink?
I do it to escape from my ****** reality every friday. What about you?

I wanted to start a similar thread too. I drink wine or sake (nihonshu) and occasionally also some cocktails. I don't really like other alcohol, especially beer, shochu or whisky.

In my younger days, I drank all sorts of alcoholic beverages, and I did so frequently and with great gusto, but now I seldom drink any alcohol at all. I do occaisionally imbibe, however, and when I do, it is with either beer, wine, sake, or cognac.

Beer is my alcholic beverage of choice -- why? because I like the taste of beer, and I like to get a bit of a buzz now and then. A beer buzz goes well with listening to music, especially live performances, sporting events, fishing, hanging out on the beach, sitting around a bonfire, having a few laughs with a group of friends, or just when -- dammit, I feel like tossing back a few brews.

I sometimes drink wine with a meal, but I do this to enhance the flavor of the food, and seldom to the point of feeling any hint of an altered state.

I love to drink hot sake in the company of others who like sake, and I find it to be a wonderful conveyance to transport oneself to a point of pleasant inebriation. Not blind-assed, knee crawling , commode hugging drunk, mind you, but just achieving that pleasant sensation of being slightly goofy high while still lucid enough to make sense in a conversation. You know what I mean, that state of mind when one is able take comfort in the chaos and see the humorous aspect of almost any situation -- now I try to do that when I am sober too, but sometimes alcohol enables that vision to come about a little easier.

The other category that I selected is brandy, specifically cognac. Although I only have a snifter or two of the delicate spirits a few times a year, I find it to be a most pleasant way to warm up on a cold winter night.

I prefer to leave all the other stuff alone, as in been there, done that, and survived the trip.

My alcoholic drink of choice? Beer! Mind you, I mean good beer. Not the watered down, weak-tasting urine that most people favor. Nosiree, only the good stuff for me. I LOVE a ice cold brew after hot bath. Or better yet, while I'm in the bath!
Secondly, I like to drink wine with dinner. I'm not sure why, but a few glasses is alway pleasent with a big meal.
After that, I don't mind the occasional wiskey or vodka.

That being said, I really don't drink that much.

My drinks of choice are beer (okay, Guiness is the only beer that I allow myself to drink, guess I'm a beer snob, ), sake, aquavit, and wine.

A good ice cold draft is the way to go!

With that said, I was like Bob, I used to drink most anything. Now it is strictly beer though, and sometimes Awamori.

In my younger days though vodka and rum were my drinks of choice! I still say that an Ice cold draft in a frosty mug can not be beat!

i liked alcohol a lot more in my younger days, like 16-18.5 but now i don't really like it anymore, i'll just drink sometimes with friends like a beer maybe, which i only like a couple of belgian ones, kriek and leffe, and maybe hoegaarden, then wine of course, maybe sm nice strong drink, but not like vodka, better tequila i'd say. That's about it, not much of a drinker actually.

LOL, I like this thread.
I am the manager of a wine and spirits shop. I have drank so many things that I keep going back to beer and cognac. A good Remy Martin on a cold night will do you some good. Or, if im in a beer mood, a Guinness or Samuel Smith Oarmeal Stout. Bourbon whiskey is big here so most people drink it...too sweet for me....

Why? I drink because I'm an alcoholic and I'll take it any way I can get it. But I prefer, beer (I love the cheap stuff but will sometimes go for a Guinness), red wine (Merlot), Martinis (with plenty of olives), and good ol' Red Bull and Vodka (so I can keep drinking all night). Man, I need a drink.

The sweet stuff. I like it better. Beer taste like water after a while. I don't like water. Wine is ok zingy but bland and annoying after a while.

I prefer sweet liquors like Bailey's, Verpoorten (egg cream liquor) or Limoncello (Italian lemon liquor).
With wine, I absolutely can't stand the dry stuff and only like the really sweet one like the Greek Samos.

As long as we're at it...

What is everyone's favorite beer?

I am partial to 3 micro-breweries in Wisconsin; New Glarus, Berghoff (in Monroe), and South Shore in Ashland. I've been to all three breweries. Great stuff! I like to visit breweries, as I plan to brew my own when I finally settle down. The worst brewery I've been to? Miller, in Milwaukee.

My hopes weren't very high, but boy, did that suck.

I guess I'm the exception of the lot, but I don't drink any sort of alcohol, nor have I ever understood the passion people have for it either. I tried beer once, and only once, back in 1977 and hated the taste, never touched a drop of it since, nor have I ever indulged in wine or spirits. The strongest thing I've drank since that curiosity laced experiment in '77 was Jolt Cola. All things considered, I can live without the stuff.

Does anyone know Pisang ? That's a sweet alcohol made of banana and it's deep green. It's usually mixed with orange juice. It's originally from old Indonesian recipe, but a Dutch company manufactures it (Indonesia was a Dutch colony).

I usually drink dry cider because my body doesn't deal with alcohol very well ^^; Girls usually drink cider here (and I Hate beer ) I could never imagine drinking vodka or something... Even if it's mixed with soemthing else, I start feeling sick pretty or get a headache quickly after drinking it - it's weird I don't like really sweet stuff either because it makes me sick.

Maybe the next best thing would be to drink dry champagne at all times? And eat strawberries.

I don't drink a lot, though. I hate hangovers and I get them easily >_<

In the Navy, I tried to find something I liked; tried about everything. I never did find anything that tasted great to me. Since my parents drank themselves to death, I'm a little afraid of booze anyway. I'll stick to Pepsi!

I had a long list of various drinks I got into before I finally lost interest in drinking anymore just recently. It used to take at least five drinks for me to get drunk, and I just drank away very often.

My husband and I brewed several beers, and most of them came out as good as or better than many imported expesive beer; we tried to copy a few Bilgian style which we liked the best. Home brew is a lot of fun with your last batch in your hand, but you need to be patient enough to let your beer grow mature, and sometimes it's hard when you have it right in your kitchen.

I have found seltzer to be very refreshing and a perfect substitute for a beer, and that is all I drink besides tea and coffee.
