Stupid dumb-a$$ people like these should never be allowed to breed...or, if they do have children, should offer the child up to adoption rather than go through this: 'tis not the first time this has happened in Japan, and it's curious how many more have to happen before the government bans parents from doing this practice...
Baby girl dies after being left in car for 12 hours as parents play pachinko Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 14:54 JST TSU ― A 6-month-old baby girl died Tuesday after being left in a minivehicle for about 12 hours while her parents played pachinko, in Inabe, Mie Prefecture, police said Wednesday. The parents told investigators that they started playing pachinko at around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, leaving their daughter in the car in the parking lot. The parents told the police they returned about 10 times to the car to check on the baby, but did not feed her as she seemed to be asleep, but at around 9:30 p.m. they realized something was wrong. Reminds me of a baby in the states who were left in a car under the gazing sun for hours. The baby died, of course.

Same incidents have happened so, so many times, and it doesn't seem like those irresponsible parents are going to change or learn.
For the last solution, this sounds very stupid, but maybe they should build a daycare right next to those pachinko places, like they do at a supermarket in the U.S. |

hrmm...50 years imprisionment would also discourage leaving children in unsafe enviroments. But thats because this is a major issue.

I hate to tell you people this, but the only thing unusual about this story is that it happened in the wintertime.
Babies broiling to death in pachinko parking lots are standard stories in Japanese news each and every summer.

Happens here with babies left in cars while the parents play the pokies (slotmachines) and whatnot.

of course, I'm sure it can be said that new laws enacted in Japan are about as slow as slugs crawling across the pavement on a rainy night...but it doesn't make the issue any less tragic or beyond stupid... I suppose in a cynical way there will be one less chance of any idiot genes from continuing forth into the population now... |

i may be morbid when i first read that on japantoday my first reaction was...
heh. that game is popular. that's about the only real thing i learned out of japanese 1 for gambling. People love that stupid addictive game pachinko. Isn't it ran by the yakuza? it's still bad that they did that. Plus what mikecash said, i'm surprised the baby died. 12 hours could be diahrea or it could've choked on it's vomit. |

I am not suggesting that this baby was the case, but all parents, who have a baby younger than a year old, or future parents should know about SIDS. This is some information I found on Center for Disease Cntrol and Prevention site. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the diagnosis given for the sudden death of an infant under one year of age that remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation, including an autopsy, a death scene investigation, review of the infant痴 health status prior to dying, and other family medical history. SIDS is the leading cause of death in infants between one month and one year of age. Most SIDS deaths occur between the ages of two and four months. Who is at risk for SIDS? Babies who sleep on their stomachs Babies born to mothers who smoke during pregnancy and babies that are exposed to passive smoke after birth Babies born to mothers who are less than 20 years old at the time of their first pregnancy Babies born to mothers who had no or late prenatal care Babies who are premature or low birth weight Babies who are placed to sleep on soft surfaces such as soft mattresses, sofas, sofa cushions, waterbeds, sheep skins, or other soft surfaces Babies who are placed to sleep in an environment containing fluffy and loose bedding, such as pillows, quilts or other coverings, stuffed toys, and other soft items It is also important to note that・ Boys are at greater risk for SIDS than girls. African American infants are twice as likely to die of SIDS as white infants. American Indian infants are nearly three times more likely to die of SIDS as white infants. More SIDS deaths occur in colder months. Several studies have demonstrated no association between receiving infant immunizations and SIDS. SIDS is not contagious. SIDS is not caused by child abuse or neglect. What causes SIDS? Although researchers are still trying to understand what causes SIDS, the following are some important clues: Evidence suggests that some SIDS babies are born with brain abnormalities that make them vulnerable to sudden death during infancy. In many SIDS babies, abnormalities are found in parts of the brainstem that use serotonin as a neurotransmitter, and are thought to be involved in the control of breathing during sleep, sensing carbon dioxide and oxygen, and the ability to wake up. A baby with this abnormality may lack a protective brain mechanism that senses abnormal respiration or cardiovascular function and normally leads babies to wake up and take a breath. Babies who sleep on their stomachs may get their faces caught in bedding, which causes them to breathe too much carbon dioxide and too little oxygen. Researchers are studying whether this is why sleeping on the stomach is hazardous and why babies with brainstem abnormality die when sleeping in this position. A larger number of babies who died from SIDS apparently had respiratory or gastrointestinal infections prior to their deaths. This fact may explain why more SIDS cases occur during the colder months of the year. Researchers indicate that some SIDS babies had higher-than-normal numbers of cells and proteins generated by the immune system. Some of these proteins interact with the brain to alter heart rate, slow breathing during sleep, or put the baby into a deep sleep, which may be strong enough to cause death, particularly if the baby has an underlying brain abnormality. What can parents and other caregivers do to lower the risk of SIDS? While there is currently no way to predict which babies will die from SIDS, there are ways to lower the risk of SIDS: Place babies to sleep on their backs, unless advised otherwise by a physician. Place the baby on a firm mattress, such as in a safety-approved crib or other firm surface. Remove all fluffy and loose bedding, such as fluffy blankets or other coverings, pillows, quilts, and stuffed toys, from the baby痴 sleep area. Get good prenatal care, including proper nutrition, no maternal smoking or drug/alcohol use, and frequent medical check-ups beginning early in pregnancy. Take babies for regular well-baby check-ups and routine immunizations. For more information about SIDS and infant sleep position, contact the Back to Sleep campaign at 1-800-505-CRIB, or visit the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) web site at: http://www.nichd.nih.gov/sids/sids.htm |

It's only 12 hours. Now, I may not know how an infant's system works, or the temperature or sicknesses it may have had, etc, but seriously, it's rather absurd that a perfect baby would just DIE in 12 hours because they were not fed. There's clearly something I'm missing, because....
Anyways, yep, that's sad. Who cares if it's sleeping or not? Wake it up, feed it, and hope it goes to sleep. Better yet, take it with you. Bad atmosphere? Have a good friend watch over it. Oh well, every country has its mishaps. |

CDC's Genocidal Policy: Hush-hush is causing more SID deaths ?
OFF TOPIC: SID among AfroAmerican and Native American babies connected to Continued Genocide Policy of the US

What is called risk factors are mostly a euphemism for 'neglect' or 'child neglect,' and 'child abuse ' is is clearly stated acc. to wikipedia information quoted below. Not educating the public, esp. when the high racial incidence is known, is governmental mass neglect, and hence it can be proven that it is genocide or genocidal.

How could the gov't be stingy in spending their tax money on preventing the undely high incidence of SID's among them ? I think this is another piece of evidence that the US gov't is continuing in its 2 century old genocidal policy of reducing these minority races in number by letting their babies die by doing nothing about it. That is racism and tacit genocide at its worst. Last edited by lexico; Aug 29, 2005 at 22:10. |

There should be a law against genetic genocide; failure to raise an offspring to adulthood is a crime against humanity ~!
反人類的犯罪 ==> They should be put on a rehab program to survive in a world where the temptation to play pachingko can never overtake their reason. Insert the pachinko-pain chip in their heads, and be hugged. |

I read about this before somewhere... it's terrible.
Especially that it happens so often...I am not really surprised that the baby died in 12 hours... because even if it was healthy, it can easily choke or turn over and get smothered.

The Us government does not withhold information on SIDS or what constitutes care or neglect for babies based on your color. Actually in Wisconsin you get extra if you are a minority, it's being white that is getting to be hard.
There was just another case of a woman placing her 11 month old in her gas oven (turned ON!) because she and her boyfriend had a fight. Neglect of children happens in all countries for many reasons, mainly stupidity, arrogance, ignorance and selfishness. It's a me first world we live in and everybody is out for themselves and their happiness first.

I'd bet the only reason they left the kid in the car is because they couldn't take the child into the parlor with them.
