Microchips to be implanted into pet cats in Okinawa
The Ministry of Interior plans to begin implanting microchips into foreign residents, which will carry information about the person and its sponsor, in a bid to protect local population, ministry officials said Tuesday. Oops, sorry, here's the story. ;) The Environment Ministry plans to begin implanting microchips into pet cats, which will carry information about the cat and its owner, in a bid to protect endangered birds that are increasingly being preyed upon by stray cats, ministry officials said Tuesday. The ministry hopes the move will protect endangered species such as the rare flightless bird, the Okinawa Rail (yambarukuina), and the Okinawa Woodpecker (noguchigera), which live in the Yambaru region in Okinawa, the officials said. => http://www.japantoday.com/e/?content...at=4&id=246553

exactly how is the micro-chip going to stop an animal from hunting food? By harassing it's owners?

Probably they are going to impose a hefty fine on their owners.
