A tiny story of the "culturally inept."

In July (2005), I returned form a 2 week long trip to Japan with a group of American high schoolers! Anyway, there was a small, humorous event that might be worth mentioning.

Upon arriving at nice, well appointed Ryokan (Traditional Japanese hotel with tatami rooms, futons, the works..), two or three of the girls, ignorant to any sort of Japanese history or tradition, upon entering their room and seeing the sleeping accomodations remarked, "We didn't pay all of this money to camp out on the floor!"

Funny story ! I hope, since they spent all their hard-earned money for the exotic experience, would now appreciate; sometimes people do learn while remebering little things from the trip.

Aww, KyleMunro! This is the program I was with: http://www.studentambassadors.org/ if you are interested! I was invited by the program itself, so it may be possible to sign up or see if your school is connected. Anyway, it's a very classy program. My trip was very safe and included both a homestay and the tour went through many large cities in Japan!

Of course, programs like these or at least homestays are suprisingly easy to find with just a google search! Best of luck.

Some things are wasted on some people, no doubt about it.
