I used to like their song, 'Fly'. I like the Gospellers more now.

Of course...

SMAP's an extremely popular group, both for their music as well as for acting... all of the members of the group have been very active in the live-action "dramas" which populate the TV scene, and they've also had various successful variety shows on TV and radio as a group. They've been active as a group since around 1990... before that they were a back-up dancing group for another boy band, Hikaru Genji.

Were you looking for more of their music to check out? I'm not really a SMAP expert, but I know enough that I could probably help you a little bit if you had specific questions...

One of their most popular songs ever came out this year, in fact... it's called "Sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana".

Nice to meet you!

Ah, SMAP is bad boy band pop. Then again, all Japanese boy bands (as well as any other kind) are bad, so don't mind me. =P

Well... Tokio was okay...

Tokio played instruments, do they really count as a boy band in the normal sense?

And I liked Tokio. They had a certain energy that I enjoyed.

i used to enjoy watching the variety tv shows with my gf. it was fun. you just need "asian mindset" to appreciate that kinda stuff. those "types" of shows are only popular in countries like taiwan, korea,HK, etc... sorry but it's true!

while i am not into SMAP's music, or any other boy-band type music, that variety show they were on was pretty funny even though i couldn't understand it - nihongo wa heta da yo.

Speaking of Japanese variety, did anyone watch Silly go Lucky before it changed?

Thats where the whole Yatta bs got thrusted into hyperdrive. Before that, it was a great show. Now I think they call the new format, 'Gonna go Crazy'. Its got like, 4 of the original members, and a few people who are newer, but pretty funny.

I am a HUGE SMAP fan!

I have been a SMAP fan for quite some time now...I am sad though because they did not release a CD this year
I thought that the SMAPXSMAP shows were pretty funny.

...hmmm SMAP... i cant comment more about their songs coz im a newbie to SMAP fandome i got myself in coz of TAKUYA, but i love Sekai ni Hitotsu dake no Hana...I now love Takuya Kimura he's a got good voice, drama actor, model, a hottie..."bad boy band", that's kinda rude coz i think they got talent, and if you see them perform, so far i only see their Made in Japan Concert 2003..."boy band, they're not, but a group" it's kinda different thing in the case of SMAP.

Nakai Masahiro, Kimura Takuya (Kimutaku for short), Katori Shingo, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi and Inagaki Goro and former member Mori Katsuyuki started out as skateboarding back-ups to popular group Hikaru Genji in 1988. The turn of the decade saw the end of the so-called 'idol groups' but clever marketing by their agency ensured that the members of SMAP were everywhere - TV shows, concerts, musicals, commercials, radio. Kimutaku in particular became poster boy for his generation and could demand huge fees for commercial appearances. Singles such as 'Gambarimasho' and 'Celery' have been huge sellers. Even the departure of Mori in 1995 to pursue a less-then-successful career as a motorcycle racer couldn't stop the SMAP juggernaut.
They have histories related to sports...nothing more to it ?

Not that this has to do with SMAP, but you fail to mention there that Hikaru Genji was a boy band on roller skates... and SMAP backed them up on skateboards! I've actually seen Hikaru Genji with SMAP performing live (on videotape), and that's a pretty crazy scene...

As far as the name goes, they're rarely referred to by that full name so probably they put some English words together that they thought sounded good... the group MAX is almost never referred to by their full name "Musical Active eXperience" either. I wouldn't think too much more about it...

I just know their name SMAP is Spors, Music Assemble People. I'm not their big fan, but I like the song "Sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana"~~that's really good. And Kimura is cool, i watched his drama "Pride", briliant! And last time, I forget when, Beckham was on SMAPXSMAP, that's quite funny.
Hikaru Genji~~~hehe~~rollar skater boys. I like the song "Yuuki 100%"~~quite funny. And there is a new Jr. unit called "Kis-My-Ft."(strange name), their rollar skater teacher is the one of Hikaru Genji's. Cool~~~
