Thief!!!

I went swimming after work today. After a couple of hours in the pool and sauna, I changed clothes and got ready to go home.

That's when I noticed my shoes were gone.

Gone.

Gee Oh En Ee.

Gone.

Were they new? or nice shoes at least? What an inconvenience that must've been.

I couldn't imagine anyone trying to jack my shoes while I'm in the sauna... then again my feet are big and my shoes are pretty beat up.

I didn't even get mad about it. The shoes were worn out to the point that I was going to retire them soon anyway. Also, my shoe size is 29. Most shoe stores in Japan only stock men's shoes up to size 27.5, sometimes 28. A size 29 is normally a special order. In other words....I don't think the person who stole them could possibly be interested in wearing them. And it isn't likely that the person put my shoes on by accident.

The pool loaned me a pair of indoor/outdoor slippers to go home in. I think they were about a size 22 or something.

Wow, 29cm ! That's almost the size of a Greek god. lol My size id 27.5 and it was alreday very difficult to find something I liked (or something at all) in most of the shops I went to. So I bought new shoes when I went back to Europe... As I only have one pair of "regular shoes" (apart from sport, hiking and dressed-up shoes), I would have been seriously pissed if that had happened to me.

That's strange, to steal a pair of shoes that's nearly worn out O_o I wonder, was it someone who knows you and plays a trick on you? Who did you annoy recently ?

Maybe it was someone else with big feet ? Maybe they struggled to find a pair of shoes big enough ? lol ....

I'm the same as you Mike...I need a 28.5 which is hard to find! Not to mention many of the styles are ugly as hell! I occasionally find something I like, but can't find my size! I own 4 pairs of shoes...hiking boots (for work), running shoes, sandles (because of the heat here), and a pair of dress shoes (for emergencies). I would be seriously pissed if someone stole any of them!

Actually, I have a theory about what likely became of them. If it is correct, I will probably find out the next time I go to the pool.

Just a couple of wild guesses.

Could it possibly be that someone "stole" them because you were a foreigner?

Or maybe the attendant threw them out because they were so old and worn out that he figured they couldn't possibly be worn by anyone.

I Would Rather Believe......

some little pervert is now caressing and sniffing those poor old shoes; thinking of the hairy masculine gaijin who wore them. On the weekend, he drinks warm sake from one while having sex with the other; a man truly in heaven!

It sounds like somebody is having fun with your shoes.

Don't they have coin lockers where you can put your belongings in while you are in the pool?

If they don't, you should tell them to get them.

Someone stole a nice leather motorcycle jacket when I was working at a bar, (dj'ing)... (this was good old fashioned USA crime, not crime in Japan by the way)... I don't know when it happened, maybe I went to the bathroom and some yob though "hey, free jacket!"...

...but stealing shoes... A man needs to walk home! Someone stealing your shoes is the criminal equivalent of the pop top snapping off a can of pudding.

I'm also leaning towards the thrown away theory.

What shoes were they?
You best be lucky they weren't boots, i've stories that certain boots are just made for walking and thats just what they do. Its crazy.
You know i bet some homeless guy dressed in rags has got them, selling them for drugs. Were your socks taken aswell?

It's still a mystery. I went back to the pool a couple of days after that and the same girl was working the counter. She said that a pair of shoes had been left behind. They didn't resemble my shoes at all, were a different size, and were in better condition.

My suspicion is that a guy from an assisted living facility got my shoes by mistake. I have no way of confirming that, though.

Sorry to hear about your shoes, I hope the person that took them bring them back, and soon. I know about the problems about trying to buy large shoes here as I wear a size 34cm shoe. Here are some links to stores that have large shoe sizes available here in Japan.

I usually end up buy a few extra pairs when I go back to the states.
